Actually I was having A LOT of trouble finding that info in the datasheet for the PCM2707. Nowhere can I find the I2S level of this chip. I would have to assume it's 3.3V (says internal voltage is 3.3V), but I'm not sure, which is why I ask.
No worries at all. I did not mean to sound short. 🙂
The information you seek is on Page 3.
"OUTPUT LOGIC" section.
Cheers!

Ah, tricky hidden specs - 2.8V Minimum, but no actual level

Buffalo Sales
The next round of Buffalo DACs will go on sale this Saturday, November 8th at 2:00PM Eastern Standard Time (7:00PM/19:00 GMT). There will be a second followup round of sales six hours later, at 8:00PM EST. I will be posting a countdown timer on the Buffalo page shortly.
Updates will be posted here:

Hi,
I thought we will have a waiting list as you hinted in the last news flash. So, back to hitting the F5 key lightning fast, is it?

Hello Brian,
Will the other new products like the Volumite also become available at that time?

I am currently building lots of Buffalos. Lots. I will begin shipping them the week of December 8th.
I will begin taking pre-orders for this lot on Saturday as noted above. Once these sell out, there will be a waiting list for next next round. There will be a new button on the page to sign up, but only after the current stock sells out.
Will the other new products like the Volumite also become available at that time?
We will have the Volumite ready. I need to calculate the pricing and get the page up. Since I won't be shipping for a few weeks still, it will be possible to add items to a Buffalo order and receive everything together.
Counterpoint will not be available yet, as Russ found some issues and is reworking it.
Re: 192kHz S/PDIF
is this the LMV7219?
BrianDonegan said:So, just finished testing a Buffalo with the updated comparator in place. I get solid lock at 24bit/192kHz S/PDIF.
Since I don't have a true 192kHz source, my test rig used a Metronome to upsample a 16/44.1 signal to 24/192 I2S, which was then fed through a WM8804 module to transmit the S/PDIF to the Buffalo.
Future Buffalos will use the new comparator.

Yes.
If anyone wants to have their older Buffalo upgraded, I will gladly do that for free.

No problem here, it's has been taken care of.
Brian,
Could you give us a mouser part number for the new comparator? And also just maybe modify a board pic to show which one to change....
And also if there is anything we should test after replacement....

Placid PS and the Buffalo
Russ and Brian,
Have you noticed any sonic difference with the new Placid over the LCDPS? I am getiing ready to race for a Buffalo(tick-tock-tick-tock) and I want to know whether or not the Placid will be worth the wait?

Russ and Brian,
I will be using a Sowther transformer and passive resistor to do the I/V. http://www.sowter.co.uk/specs/9545.htm It says 20 dB of gain and suggests resistors of 100ohms... What do you think? How do I figure out the voltage that the Sabre puts out with any given resistor? I am aiming for two volts or a little more. Thanks and I hope I owe you some money later.

Hello khundude
At the moment I use my buffalo in voltage mode straight into a TVC. This gives about the same output as the IVY. You want it in current mode: with this Sowter tranny you need both primaries in series, midpoint to ground. If you have the secondaries in series as well, you have a 1: 5 conversion. Secondary peak current will be about 3.2mA (16mA:5). In real current mode the buffalo should see a very low load, lets say not more than 20 Ohms. There are already 10 in the transformer, so there should be an additional load of 10 Ohms. This gives a secondary load of 250 Ohm (10*25).
Peak voltage output will be 250*3.2= 800mV or about 280mv RMS, so you need an activ preamp. If you want more output in current mode, you need a transformer with a higher ratio. If you just increase the resistor, buffalo sees a higher load and goes more and more into voltage mode. On the paper current mode is better, but it is difficult to check, you need different transformers. This is the reason I stay with voltage output, the best Wavelengh dac uses a buffalo in voltage mode as well.
regards.
André
I've just ordered a Buffalo DAC. I'm currently using the Opus in dual differential output mode feeding a differential to single ended output stage (CD Enhancer II, 3a5 DHT - Sowter 8650a) followed by a TVC.
I'll be comparing the Buffalo to the Opus in voltage output mode feeding the CD enhancer II. The OPUS sounds great running off batteries feeding a JSR-03 regulator.
It'll be interesting to see how the Buffalo compares to the Opus.

Brian, an easy one here.
1. Are the new Buff's fitted with the LMV7219 and
2. Are they on firmware 1.03 or equal function ?

Volumite
I just added the basic Volumite page here: http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/control/volumite.aspx
I will be adding more information to it shortly.
