On the subject of browsers, as it stands this forum works great on all sorts of browsers and OS. Tricky to do, that is. Best wishes and crossed finger for such great cross-platform stabilty on the new version.
Browsers I've used with succes to read and post to diyAudio.
Opera
Opera Mobile
I.E. mobile (the worst)
Firefox & Mozzila
Safari
I.E. for windoze
I.E. for Mac OS 9
Netscape for windoze
Netscape for OS 9!
iCab
and some Linux stuff.
(maybe I should dig up a copy of Mozaic, just for fun)
Not bad!
Add Lynx to that list 🙂
I had flakey hardware once that stuck me in CLI for a few days. I had no problem browsing and posting in total command line 😀
Cheers!

I think a lot of people forget about that second step, "search this thread". It's a great tool.

Yeah, for example:
Occasionally I need to reference one of my previous threads, so I do a search. Not having the greatest memory, I'll put in something I think is close - for instance "1000 watt". Surely, this will hit on page one? Nope.
5 pages in, 8 places down. Blink and you'll miss it.
Like finding a needle in a haystack.

Hi Veronica,
I'm a house husband - sort of. I used to walk and talk and... everything!
I hear you on the busy comment. Your job keeps you more than busy I bet. You are welcome to lurk, and we're just glad you registered.
Still, starting a thread when you have a problem may bring you answers and ideas for the future.
My little brother is a grand dad. I'm not - yet.
I just cooked a dinner tonight for wifely, plus we have three daughters and three Poodles (no connection, legal limit). She doesn't let me shop though.
As for people, they are stressful for control fanatics. I see your point, and I can understand it. I am happiest in my lab.

Re: Forum upgrade
Can't wait...
My sentiments (except the giggles - this is serious 🙂) exactly. I generally use Google to search for stuff buried in diyaudio, as they allow a bit better (but only a bit) than the current stuff.Veronica said:Oh thank you thank you thank you for upgrading the search here.
I do not use this site nearly as much as I would like because it is so cumbersome.

You get a big kiss from me. (blown of course).
giggles
Luv,
Veronica

In that case seaching "titles only" would have produced a much better result. For all the problems with the current search it can be made to do most things if you know which settings to use. It's biggest problem is that it makes you think too much in order to get the results you're looking for. We look forward to offering something much better on the new site.
I agree, it's hard to use (user-interface design) but if you remember what you must do it functions correctly.

That reminds me, we don't get much spam on this forum, kudos to the mod team for that.
edit: and it's gone like a flash of lightning!!

2. Search by threads and then once u are in the thread, use the search this thread feature at the bottom right hand corner of the page.

Thank you so much!
I do really like diyaudio.com as it is; but, if you're going to make it even better, then I'm going to be even more impressed. 😉

At the moment the plan is to post here when we know exactly. Audiofreak is working hard - it is pretty much all in his hands now!

Wouldn't this be a good idea ?
A crash is unthinkable .....isn't it ?
Having been in the field making 'upgrades' to broadcast systems has taught me that you MUST always have an immediate alternative path if the upgrade doesn't work as expected or even crashes.
Imagine the number of guys who will take to the bottle if there is an extended hitch !😀

3. Try and run the new system in parallel on a entirely different server and when your happy with the new system migrate to it.

Pretty much exactly what we are doing.
Cool. So we don't have to worry too much !
Silly of me to think that you wouldn't have considered that.

TABBED browsers
I'm heavy user of FF , so it's pretty obvious that I'm used to tabs ;
I'm still not on FF3 , just because some of my "must have" extensions aren't compatible with FF3 ......
anyway - one thing is same on all tabbed browsers - I really prefer to see page title in tab ( in case that I don't have zillion in one window ) ;
in this moment "diyAudio forums - ............. " is just choking title on tab , so I must hover mouse on tab ,to see full title .......... and blahblah
I think that shorting "diyaudio forums " to just "DiyA" or - even better - placing "diyaudio forums" on end of page title can be convenient .........
I'm asking too much ( as usual ) ?
TIA !

Hi Choky,
I'm on FF3. Very much like FF2 as far as the user is concerned from, my point of view. Or, has it been that long since I upgraded?
I just close tabs as I'm done, then load others up. I run completely different FF3 windows for different things though, trying to keep each activity light on the old eyes.
I do love those tabs!
DiyA? Nah. We are called that on other sites, we don't need to be lazy.

hiya , ya kwayzee techie 😉
FF2 ili FF3 - that's just matter of time when all needed extensions will be updated for FF3 .....
what I wrote is probably just matter of habit ; I'm used to open DiyA main page ( and I'm always typing "DiyA" , I like it that way .... ) , then midclick on all interesting topics ........ but pretty often while reading topic I open some link in background tab ....... continuing to read root topic ........ planing to see what's in link ...
anyway - you know what I mean ..... no biggie , strictly matter of comfort ...
if possible with minimum effort , if not - I'm already satisfied .
bloody forum is ppl , machine is way down on my list

Hiya Choky!,
So, where is the new and improved Pumpkin? Complete with a super shunty regulator? A really nice job on those BTW, and I saw those two years ago now. Doesn't seem that long ago.
Keep your iron hot and your monitor on, FFx will do as it wasn't broke anyway. 😉
