I’d imagine those Great Plains drivers also would be very good. Stage 2 of my system will be compression drivers in home built constant directivity horns, I have the drivers for whenever I get to that.
Does anyone have experience with both PHL and JBL mids?

I've been intrigued by these. Apparently, ex-Altec folks still making vintage sounding new compression drivers?
I've been impressed with the sound of compression drivers more and more recently. They can sound quite good, but I wonder if they measure as good as cone drivers when used under say 90db at listening distance...
I find the compression midrange in the Martion Orgon had the best midrange at the Highend show in Munich this year. By the way, what does the GPA cost, and would this be an alternative?

I plan on using a conically loaded eminence alpha 6 for my midrange. There is also a website a gentleman has made detailing some excellent phase plugs for this driver. He claimed a response from 300-4000hz which sounds very useful to me. These drivers sound quite fine on their own and I am excited to build a horn for them. I also plan on running them open backed to avoid as many resonances as possible.
This sounds to me like a very good midrange solution.
Good luck!

After finally hooking up the big horns with the rebuilt drivers, I must add the Altec 1803 horn with the 8 ohm 288 driver as my entry.
