37 posts before someone mentioned Eddie VanHalen. Whats wrong people? Has nobody heard eruption. Easily one of the greatest if not the greatest guitar solos of all time. Check out some of Eddie's other work if you are not convinced.

Tribute to Jimi.

Parts of the eruption solo are not improvised, but copied directly from Jimi Hendrix (Jimi Hendrix - Live at Winterland). Eddie still is one of the great rock guitar virtuosos though.

Oh.. no! I believe one of the greatest guitar solo pieces must be Stevie Ray Vaughan interpretation of the classic Hendrix "Little wing"... listen to it. It amazes me every time I listen to it.
