Best DIY CLASS AB

I'm not sure what other amps from DIYA have these but the Wolverine build guide, BOM and Team is what makes that amp as fantastic as it sounds. 1st amp I've ever built, no problems following the build guide, and I ended up building another one (problems with that one since fixed were my own fault, not the guide). I now have 4x wolverine channels powering my mids/highs and lows. Was so fun and the team is so helpful and knowledgeable.

I think some members got salty about it because they didnt offer free gerbers, but once you buy the PCB's, its all forgotten. Everyone on the project is equally deserving of a lot of praise.

I'll be buying another set of boards to go to six channels.

I couldnt agree more the wolverine design team is on another level it said an amp designed by fanatics for Fanatics and i listen to it daily all my other amps are collecting dust now im going to do ef4 soon and for anyone doubting it can handle low impedance i run it with 2.7 ohm load and its rock solid dead quiet you have to be careful at high volume its so clean you dont realize it is so loud till all you see are lips moving when someone tries to talk to you

Just build a wolverine you will never regret it only pure high end audio perfection the design team went through this amp from top to bottom there is No Weak spot in it anywhere it is the best of DIY and rivals best commercial equipment. Just follow guide and ask any questions great support group of some very talented people

Yes i agree you have to feed the beast clean signal and have speakers that can pull the best out of it I have a nad c565bee cd player that i fully recapped and restored it has best wolfson dac wm8741 x2 in dual differential mode and have short cable to my Wolverine the speakers i have are not top shelf but they are a high fidelity speaker focal chora 826 i have it paralelled 4 in a quadraphonic setup and in comparison to a nad c270 driving them its night and day noise floor on wolverine is almost inaudible vs the 270 can hear hiss in mids and tweeter and at moderate volume the Wolverine is silky smooth the 270 is a little harsh on on top the bottom end the wolverine has superb tight controlled bass. I agree a class A can run with wolverine but it would have to have 5x the heatsinking to match power and dynamics of the Wolverine its Definitely at top of its game in Class AB

I can totally quote @Michael327 and @mainframe99. I built this amp too and I can say that it's really fantastic! I coupled it both with B1 Nutube preamp and with the Iron Pre and its sound is really involving! It's a complex build, but the team support is awesome and you'll be able to manage any kind of issue (if any...)

How do you like the sound of that Preamp ? that korg 6p1 dual triode is slick and i love the low voltages Perfect for keeping noise floor to minimum i have looked at that kit many times but had other projects going im ready to finally build a good preamp

Did you ever try amplifier with basic current drive / cfa amp?
That's going to be my new amps. I have the case ,PS's, softstart , and protection. Like the wolverine , but I wanna try the "Hellraiser" CFA/servo/Hawksford
(soft valve like clip) design. I built the similar circuit back in "slewmaster days" - so , I know it works (well).
BTW , it fits Wolverine output boards and "arcwelder mini) EF3's. Real cool circuit... 5pom - won't beat a wolverine in thd , but might sound better in a mid sized party amp. "Spookyamp' is the same symmetric "Leach type" amp - same Hawksford and servo.

Here is the Hawksford VAS , no design is like it besides "ye olde Nikko" 70's integrated amp. I hammered subwoofers with it 10 years
ago .... red leds flashed at overload. All forum designs are either bootstrapped/current sourced VFA's - NOT like this.
Edit - It "acts different , as well. THD slowly rises from 4 to 10PPM right up to clip. 4R and 8R are the same ... and the CFA is SO fast that
NFB can correct the class AB output crossover "glitch". 20mA AB bias gives the same THD as the optimal 70-100mA setting.

I used that circuit in many ways, both as output stage for my two DACs (dam1021 and Abbado II) and as a preamp, with different combinations of signal caps (polar and film) and it sounds quite good and it's fun to play with (you can try different phases and trim the amount of 2nd order harmonic distortion, both in positive and in negative phase), so you can actually change the sound character of the circuit. But if you want a serious preamp, I strongly recommend you to build Zen Mod's Iron Pre, it's dead silent and it offers a rich and detailed sound, with an exceptional stage reconstruction and, last but not least it's simple and fun to build.
