Best Compact Tapped Horn Sub for DJ PA?

It exhibits a 10 db peak at 63 hz, and a 10 db peak at 95hz. as power is applied, you can see the area between 70 and 80 starts to droop even more (resulting in almost a 13 db difference between 78 and 95 (minus the peak at 73). The peaks and droops are actually worse than the ones in the sim (below 100hz). Ricci also notes that distortion gets a bit out of hand above 63hz.

There's a reason why people are using gjallerhorns AND othorns in the same room.

Saludos desde México.

engo 6 T48 24 "with eminence kappa 3015lf lite and I'm not happy, I just have my doubts to build the model is Staiper-15bhl" MICRO-HOG "or SS15, jBELL you have any suggestions?.

Greetings from Mexico.

There is a reason I try to convince folks to just 'build one' just to see. It usually ends up with the tell tale -- it's enough, or, it's not enough... That decision is unique to each person. However a singlesheet easy build lets you find out for yourself. I can't stress how important it is to prove things to yourself, vs accepting other's opinions.

For anyone else reading this, thinking they want as simple/cheap/small dj system as they can possibly run, here's a reasonable formula. (yes I've run and sold to others what I'm about to list out... it surprises me too...)

- DJ pod with 4u space and control surface.
- pair Behringer (cough, cough...) B212D, and speaker stands.
- IPR 3000 DSP (XLR in, and 1/4" chain out to the tops)
- pair wireless mics
- pair ss15, 4015lf loaded.

Put the subs on their sides under your dj table, mouth's together. Ratchet strap the subs together-- making sure strap goes under rubber mat you brought to keep the lightweight ss15's from 'walking.' Toe in your tops.

The dsp in the new behringer tops surprises me greatly... No they are not qsc K12's, but then for $300 what do you expect? As you turn them up the dynamic eq actually works... I'm stunned. I've built many tops, but on the low end, I can't build anything that competes by the time you figure in dsp, amp, drivers, cabinet. The above list can actually run without any eq, however a dsp based eq is obviously a huge plus, and the DJ pod has the space for it.

Now the one thing that is absolutely MANDATORY in the above system, remove all behringer badges .... people hear with their eyes.

Is it possible to use jbell ss15 loaded with 3012LF small weddings with a smallish 8" Beta A woofer and use a passive crossover for the lows? Tops will be passive crossover for smallish DJ wedding venues less than 100 people indoors and where can I find the latest ss15 plans? Was thinking the Fusion 8 diy sound group? Thanks!

1. The SS15 was designed around a larger driver. I wouldn't suggest using it for the 3012LF. Look around for one specifically designed for that driver, or just design your own, based around one of the existing designs for 12" drivers. Using HornResp and the appropriate spreadsheet from the "Spreadsheet for Folded Horn Layouts" thread, you should be able to come up with something pretty easy that fits your requirements.

2. I don't recommend the use of passive filtering like you suggested. Active filtering (DSP) is the way to go, as you'll need to use EQ, delay and x-over features to get the best results. The lucky thing is that you can get all of that and amplification too for at pretty cheap price if you opt for one of the Behringer iNuke amps to drive your system.

3. My small PA system uses Beta 8A drivers for the tops and at 12" TH for the sub. I've used it for background music and it works quite well. For an indoors wedding reception with 100+ people that are likely to get a bit "loud"? I'd probably opt for something a bit larger 🙂.
