Will the horn shape flare in the vertical direction as well when finished ?
I'm trying the best I can 😉
but man this is tough, and definately not the best method this way 😱

so i got as far as the 4th page and decided to just jump to the end. has anybody been to or recomended TalkBass.com - Bass Guitar and Double Bass Forums: Basses, Amps, Strings, Effects yet? been going there for this stuff for years. i think there's a ton of misinformation in regards to drivers, driver size, cab building, bass rigs and everything else on the internet. talkbass will give you the RIGHT answers, once you get over the "instant gratification" factor and READ THE STICKIES AND FAQ's. one note i feel i must mention about some of the early posts in this thread--- don't get hung up on driver size-- it's all about the specs and box design. and subs are a waste of time. just get a proper bass driver with good specs, and use a design that is tailored to that driver for the box. if you haven't already, please check out TB.
I'm sure it will look cool in the end

sure learned to appreciate a good knife 🙄

Coming late, but would a Shurform work on plywood?
maybe for the last finish
I have used electric planer
I think the normal way to do this kind of horn is to make the sides conical/plane
solves many issues, and a lot simpler with straight cuts
its a real pain with this many curves
also, making seperated horns would be easier too
I will definately choose to do that for my hifi system
some kind of machinery would be nice too
the only electric tools I have used are jig saw and planer
hence the 'sloppy' result
good thing Im allowed to use filler 😀
Cool. Trust me, I'm impressed by the patience and work you are putting into this. It will look, and hopefully sound fantastic in the end. Good on ye!

it sure is a beautiful looking cab. here's hoping it sounds just as sweet! ***gulp...ahhh*** thanks for giving me a legitimate reason to drink 😀
that looks too good for a "playing" cabinet , you should use it for some high effeciency hifi speakers 😀

yeah, it looks much sweeter than expected
lets see if it sounds good too
tweer CD is good, no doubt about it
Im a bit excited about the 8" midwoofer
its built fore small stage monitor
with good Xmax, and high power handling
so yeah, it might make a nice stereo
actually I have thought about making a glasfiber mold of the whole front
btw, any good estimated guesses about which frequencies Im dealing with here ?

have you weighed the box? it looks like a beast. also, would you even be willing to go thru all of that again to make the second one? i agree it's really nice looking, but all by itself it would look so lonely! did you put a top hat in the bottom for pole mounting? and btw have you considered a BFM or fEARFUL? you seem handy with woodworking, one of these might really suit you.

Yes, and the fEARful forum as well. But this whole place has a whole different feel that I really enjoy too. 😎
new2tubes2;2962631also said:yeah, if I have to
but I wont duplicate this one
for my stereo it will be slightly bigger, and seperate boxes
I already have boxes ready for 18" woofers
so, a completely new project
but similar, if it sounds any good with music
that will show
but two of everything is also about money
anyway, I know one major mistake I made with this
the thing is, I need to pull each 'bit' out, to be able to shape it, before final assembling
thats where my work got sloppy, and slipped
or maybe I just got very tired 😱
mistake no1, I should have used full layers, which means buying more plywood ofcourse
mistake no2, I should have used this router bit, and accuracy would have been much better, and cause less work
but you learn something every time

Very nice. That could easily be part of a hifi on appearance.
Has it made any sounds yet?
Chris

Chris
no sound yet, no
I like the exitement of waiting
as for the hifi
I would like to make the mid 'horn/waveguide' sligtly lower, and deeper
and both just a bit wider
building this have been a good lesson
Im now thinking about whether theres any advantages to having both of similar size like this
I dont know, but maybe it gives a more 'uniform' wavefront
could well be so
but is it audible ? thats another question
btw, I have been in bit of hurry with this
I really need it urgently
for the hifi thing, I would have plenty of time
