Hello audio enthusiast people of fanatic awesomeness incarnate! or something...
In short:
Just watched this video that shows some of the processes involved in making things from bamboo.
And it made me think... Will not disclose the results of that as I would really like a fresh perspective from someone else, so now I am left wondering:
What are your thoughts?

A whole lot of manual labour. A lot of waste, at least they use it to fire the boiler. Crude machinery, and not bvery clean.

Because of the thinness of the bamboo as a wood product, it must be laminated to form very thick material. I would be ok with this except for the many gaps in the product. Really wanted to try it out in a build, but the material stopped me dead. Perhaps a higher grade bamboo product would have been better, and I would have not had to worry about the gaps and the way that it is prone to splitting.
in the video they are making cutting boards where that is not as important, proper plywood takes more precision

I read in the forum that IKEA cutting boards were used.Perhaps a higher grade bamboo product would have been better, and I would have not had to worry about the gaps and the way that it is prone to splitting.
And in fact, having a couple of them, they are very well made and solid, without any gaps or inaccuracies of any kind.

All bamboo from IKEA.
No problems whatsoever.
Great material to work with.

That is good news. I didn't want to be soured on something that has potential. Yes, I was using cheaply made cutting boards for a source apparently. The splitting surprised me too, as it did not take much for it to happen.
I was thinking that it is absolutely insane that these things cost so little.
Like Dave said, ply requires more precision, think of all the work!
