The SiC JFET certainly is worth a try, I do have them and I’ll try it at some point. Agreed, on the effortless and amazing part.ZM's Babelfish F8 with Semisouth is my fave amp so far from all my builds - it is effortless and amazing.
I'm using Semi South, I've had them for years, time to make use.
If I didn't have them, I don't know if I would seek them out. Everyone speaks highly of the mosfet version, noting little difference. Again, I have them on hand already, so why not?

True. Knowing my habit of moving attention to next build, it's liable to stay however it is first built!
This one sounds interesting, and may require such experimentation.
Everyone seems suitably impressed, so I can't wait!

Having swapped the FET for the JFET in the exact same amp in the past I can say the FET is my preference, but that was one amp.
OTOH, this amp reminds me of a SE version of the XA25 sonically (The real one), with the cascoded BJT in the input stage being one of the similarities.
My DIY TDA1541 hybrid P-P germanium I/V with 5687 buffer through my buffer / ladder volume control (Schiit Kara) driving the BF F8, provides layer upon layer of naturalness and ease.
This fall when the weather cools down I’ll do some proper comparisons with both the XA-25 and the Singing Bush.
I’m not saying this makes a difference but it’s interesting that to my ears this amplifier shares more in common with the XA-25 sonically, which I’m fortunate to also own. The HF depth and tone of the F8 sounds like it.
The great thing about this design is how simple it is and the parts including the 74’s are easy to get. From the time I opened the parts envelope you sent me until I was biasing both channels was about two hours max. Easy and anyone can build it and have true exotic amplification.
two hours max.
..... which reminds me ...... I'll have at least 3 days of winding funny thin wires
speaking of speed

Anyone here compared F8 to PoP? A lot of the descriptions here "sound" similar to what I'm finding with PoP.
I just got the PoP and it’s too early to tell as I’ve only fed it single phase signal, need to try it balanced. So far it’s more reference sounding, way cleaner than both the XA25 and the BF F8.
