Aleph jfet conversion

The pdf on what I did can be found on page 17 of this thread. Here is the page link for those who are lazy. 😀

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75281&perpage=10&pagenumber=17

Scroll to the bottom and you should see my pdf conversion.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

It really is quite easy to convert an Aleph to my jfet version.

I have not read this complete thread either, because frankly 240 plus posts is a lot to want to read through. :clown:

Page 19 had the square waves of my finished amp.

hi , guys:
I want ask a few questions .
1. is this babbelfish j is somehow like a aleph j or a new design?
2. how is the power output , 30w per ch ?
3. need how much heatsink ?

1. dunno ; I have serious doubts that Papa will not answer you about that soon.......
2.same as Aleph 30,or any other Aleph with twice 25V in supply and 2A current through mosfets.....~30W
3.much......100W dissipation per channel.....figure it out looking on pictures of other DIY gadgets here

Nelson Pass has not released that version, because it is his current product.

We are adventurous and designed our own versions based off of the older Aleph products.

So, none of us could tell you is it the same or different. We do not know that.

I would up front say no they are not the same, because there are many different ways to build a jfet amp.

oh, thanks bill. 🙂
i also have some question , how about your a3 to j , sound wonderful ?
i get your schm , but if i want convert a30 to j , how to do it ?
just like u decribes in your pdf?
i'm a rookie here . please give me some tips ,thanks.

Aleph 30 to jfet

The pdf is pretty straight forward. The only new advice would be to stick the .001 uF across the base to collector of the mpsa18 as Choky (Zen Mod) suggested previously in this thread . Also try maybe 3 pF over the 220k ohm feedback resister.

Be prepared to play with the j176 if you buy those, because even with matching I had trouble finding a good matched pair. I have found several ways to match these, but have not tried that yet.

The 2sj109 is already matched and since you say you are new at this, maybe that would be easier for a newby.

It might be able to handle 12.75 mA of current, although it is rated 20 mA max, so you would be pushing it harder than my j176, which handle 35 mA of current from memory.

If you are starting out from scratch, Chocky's babbelfish might be easier to build, unless you already own an Aleph 30.

I think the Aleph 30 would be a great amp to try. So far I am planning on using the mini for tweeter, Aleph 3 for midrange and the Aleph 30 for bass.

Goog luck.

It still sounds like a regular Aleph family of amp, but maybe a little sweeter or rich on female voices. It seems to be very detailed in resolving music. I think it sounds good, but I do not have anything to compare it to other than previous amps of the original Zen, original aleph and perhaps some Krell amps. Out of these amps, I like the Aleph although the krell ksa-50 from the previous listen get together sounded nice too. It was class A push pull, but still sounded nice. If you were to ask Mark G. he would prefer the Krell, while I would prefer the Alephs. It all depends on your speakers I guess.

Choky,

Thank you very much for the beautiful Choky&Oly Babbelfish PCB, with no price-tag. 😎
I found it on my desk when I came back from HK this morning.

Art work . . . so beautiful that I would like to put it in the picture frame and hang it on my living room for a while before I cut and drill holes, etc.

Hmm . . . what should I do for both of you . . . ? :smash:

when building?

I'm still playing with ZV5, and I need to build its housing . . .
My headphone amp is a pre for ZV5 so that I need to build an external source selector . . .
I'm building two more headphone amps . . .

I need to find Chinese CD . . .
1389 pieces of 2SJ109bl and 2SK389bl . . .
one little bonsai . . .
1L of original ancient gun-powder . . .
8 pieces of best chinese VT4C . . .
20 pieces of best 2A3 . . .

Babelfish is on the queue . . .

🙂

just few things for babo........Papa's-teen already knows for them:

count that all 0R22 must be (hehe-"must") replaced with 0R33 or ,even better, with 3 pieces of 1R paralleled;
I dunno for you ,but I made preset of CCS for input LTP at 10 mA before soldering precious 2SJ109;
R14 is tweaking target, when you have working amp-I know that you know, but for someone who read this and don't know-that resistor is for AC gain setting of output CCS

you can use C2 or you can put short instead
you can also probably ditch out C1

all gate resistors are in mine case 180R (and not 220R) just because I have plenty of them 😉

if you wish -I can send you little rar file for loudsp protection project .....at least my spsks are too precious for me to risk anything

here you can find enclosed one nice little Duncan's PSUd file-just example of what I have prepared
