I have done some simulations on my slightly modified version of choky's babbelfish. I need to be able to use it for 4ohm speakers, so I have added an extra pair of output transistors.
Does my frequency response look reasonable?
I have had some trouble reducing the clipping when connecting to a 4ohm load - it was easier with 8ohm.
Is this clipping acceptable with a single ended sinus with amplitude 2V (4Vpp)?
Sorry about the messy schematics - I have added voltage sources with 0V to measure current through some of the nodes.

cviller......and question is?
just make it.......spice will not fill your ears with musak......
if Papa can make his own J with two pairs in output, why don't you can't....................

Yes, you are right - it is time to start building. I got my irfp240 (100pcs 😀 ) today, so I need to do some matching...
OK, you wan't more questions... simulation says the two devices in 2sj109 share ~13mA. Is that too much? According to datasheet, 2sj109BL accepts a drain current of 6-12mA. Is that for ONE of the two devices in the dual package?

per one..........side....so-12-24mA per package
my goal was ~ 5mA through each side
Maybe this has been said & done already in this looong thread but i can,t find it..
So here goes, Is there an "easy" way to convert a Aleph30 to a Aleph J ? 🙄
I have got Peter D,s Aleph30 boards on there way but the more i read about the Aleph J there more i think that i should build that instead... 😎
Is it just changing the Mosfets or is there more to it.?

everything is on first and this page of thread;
just compare schmtcs of 30 and Babelfish and you'll see;
after that-you can post exact questions

Since you have your flamesuit on, I'll borrow something from you....."very UGLY!"😀
Seriously, nice work. I love the jfet sound after hearing it on my Zv4...and because Mr. Kindhearted Bluesman, Steenoe, sent me a couple of hard to find 2SJ109s...I'll try them on an Aleph one of these days unless Mr. Pass spoils your party and shares his AJ soon.😉

Hi Choky,
Very "UGLY" indeed 🙂 Thanks for a fun and informative
read.
Maybe it's time to try out those 2sj74's...
Cheers,
Dennis

😀 😀 Nice joke, you got me there, Zen Mod😀complete bootleg.........
Hi Blues, I am looking forward to see how close the Babbelfish is on the AJ.I'll try them on an Aleph one of these days unless Mr. Pass spoils your party and shares his AJ soon.
Its probably pretty close, and sounds better than the stock Aleph.

Layout for slightly modified babbelfish
Great document.
😀
I have made a layout for the fish with two pairs. This will be my first power amp, so I would really appreciate, if some of the more experienced amp builders would spend a few minutes on my layout and offer their comments.
The board is single sided and designed for 40cm heatsinks. Dark blue traces are + AND - rails. Light blue is ground and red is everything else. The brown is just a jumper.

BTW: Please don't waste your time trying to make this into a B/W version - just mail me and I'll send it to you. 😉

I like that pdf
probably even later tonight, when I'll have time to see it better , I'll not have anything to say against 😉
send some graphic files, instead sch.......I haven't anything for opening that

Cool, thanks! 😎
I will do some cleanup of the traces before I etch it.
I copied the wrong files.... these should be readable:

I just ordered a few sj109's from these guys
http://www.slelectronics.net/
Not sure what grade, but I decided to take a chance, since they are almost impossible to find these days.
They are close to me, so I should get them pretty quickly. But, it will be a little while before I get around to using them. I will either use Peter's or Brian's Aleph board, and convert it to a sj109 front end.
