BA pre good... WLS2018, not so good

For anyone more adept and formulae: why is having the voltage divider pot set at 3k/55k with a 330K in parallel on the bottom half any better than just the 58K at 3k/55k as a voltage divider? 55k and 330k in parallel make about 47k... right?

OK, no surprise Zen Mod gave excellent advice, Thank You Zen! ... and I learned how to hook up a pot as a voltage divider. 🥷 The altered WLS has more volume control with the normal CD player but is too noisy to use with the DAC. I expected that. DAC(with 2k output Z) is not trash but it limiting as to which preamp it can work with. It works fine with the BA1 as preamp. I'm sticking with that.

Now, possessed of the necessary experience I hope to build a new WLS. I don't know if I can get it to go with my DAC but that's OK. I just want one done right 😊 I have a complete kit from the store and power supply. I do not have the right pots! 10k - 50K is a broad range... What are people using??? IF there is a better way to control volume that is smallish and with excellent illustrated directions I'm game for that otherwise I need to order a couple of "good" pots 👍

Remember what I said about tje JFETs 🙂 It is not a noisy preamp. After ZM’s alterations, it should have shut up by now.

fix it, and you can remove the output caps.
