What utter rubbish. I've devalued caps by photographing them.
What planet are you on.
Ok its not cost effective to ship to US but us Europeans might like to experiment with caps at less than cost price.

Noble pots. Expensive in UK and my experience of them NOT GOOD.
Go ALPS - Much Much better.
You bought the cheapest pieces of BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!! what do you expect ?
Unfortunately the American selling the BEEEEP Noble pot negated to tell me that it was poor.
It's worse than a penny special from the local corner shop.

Anyway, I'm using the ALPS while I wait for a 20K stepped attenuator from our Oriental friends.
In the meantime the B1 has now has Obbligato 10uF PIOs fitted as C101, C201.
They do take up some serious real estate but they can be made to fit quite comfortably.
I'm just burning them in to see how they sound.

my choice was a PEC MIL Style 2W carbon potentiometer 25k linear mono. Made by PEC Canada.Just checking... are you using a stepped attenuator?

Those huge black cans...are those electrolytic capacitors?
I read that caps should always be standing up not laying down, since all the electrolyte stays on just one side with time.I am not sure if this will affect in someway. I had mines like that ,but I had to get new ones to fit inside chassis since mine were too big to be standing up.
The HUGE Black caps that are lying down are the 10uF Paper In Oil Obligatos. C101 and C201.
All the electrolytics are standing up.
If you had to have all 'lytics standing up they wouldn't make "Axial" versions ???

.........and you should the pcb build in horizontally, not vertically.
or perhaps you will rotate them every week or so?....... 😀

An interesting point.
Why, with upright caps doesn't all the elctrolyte run down to the bottom of them ?
Surely, capilliary action will keep the electrolyte all through the cap in either orientation.

Now that I remember, is that why my stereo plays a bit different for a day or so, after I turn the pre-amp over?
Electrolytics would be useless in Space !!!
And portable CD players.
And Mobile Phones.
And military aircraft.
If we push aside the Semi-conductor vs Glass Tube debate - nearly all P2P wiring lays electrolytics on their sides.
MJF - do you have a link to the article. It must be worth a read for a laugh.

How are you going to test this theory with your turntable ?
It can't be a theory since it has not been proved.
It is not even a hypothesis, since it's all in my mind (so far).
Who says Civil Engineers have no imagination?

Now I Remember Too...
Turning the pre-amp over inverts the phase! It's WAY easier than reversing the speaker leads.
