DAC Trouble Shooting
Finally got around to finishing the DAC...it's been a very busy winter. Unfortunately, I am having some problems. First, I have 7.35V after R1 but only only 4.25V after R3. Second, is no sound at all. Any suggestions?
Amps have been working flawlessly, so all is not bad. 🙂

Id have to say I'll never go back to a flash site again. You should have stayed to html/php

Peter doesn't need help selling his products they sell them selves 🙂 &do a fine job at it too!
I have the 3875 amps. My cdp unfortunately outputs 60mV DC (inspite of output caps), so I'm forced to use input caps. I put them before a 50K pot, does 2uf value reduce the bass at 40hz?
Re: DAC Trouble Shooting
If your CDP has output caps, it should not output DC. However, if you measure DC directly after caps, without shunt resistor, there may be a residual voltage present, which should dissapear after connecting to the next stage. Connect the CDP to the amp, with amp disconnected from the speakers, and measure DC offsets then: on amp's input and on amp's output.
If my calculations are correct, using 50k pot in parallel with 22k input shunt resistor and 2uF coupling cap will produce 5Hz cut off freq in worst case (it will also depend on pot setting).
What is the voltage on transformer secondaries?
Audiooasis was always handling AudioZone sales. Personally I'm not impressed by new website either, it does not look professional. Well, they used different services than I did 😉

Re: Re: DAC Trouble Shooting
Hello Peter,
Both secondaries show 9.05V. I am now showing 8.55 and 8.95 after R1 and R3, even though I haven't touched it since last night. Still no sound.

Yes, jumper is installed. I should note I've never used the digital out on this CDP. Maybe there is a problem there?
Peter Daniel said:Check the voltages on all 3 chips in 4 places. It should read: 3 x 5V and 8V (on DAC)
I have 3 x 5V and 7.45V on DAC.
It works. 😎 Unfortunately, the digital out on my "good" CDP doesn't so I am running it with a cheap Sony DVD player. Thanks for your patience and help Peter.

It still seems like the chip is drawing too much current, as normally, the voltage before regulator should be 11-12V and after regulator 8V (on a DAC).

I noticed that also but wasn't sure if I should be concerned or not.
It will work, but certainly it's not normal. What is the power of the transformer? It seems like it's not producing enough voltage.
