Perhaps it's worth stating, this isn't about invalidating speaker designs. These guidelines on audibility can be used during the design of any speaker. They can be used to improve upon existing designs, and to help with room treatment and placement.
 
I like the clarity of Earl's explanations. There's no fundamental difference between reflections and diffraction and, of course they both result in interference. However the separate sources are produced the effect on our perception of imagery relates to their timing, intensity and angle, anything else?
