Audax metal dome tweeters?

Wow those results look really good! And Dave made elliptical waveguides not to different than mine, so it should be easy to replicate. Very encouraging that the top octave doesn't lose any sensitivity.
Manufacturers graph shows a rising response on the gold one, the specs from the manfacturer are quite different on the A20 and A28, also remember these have high Fs by modern standards.

Dave Pellegrino's Audax TW025A28 with elliptical waveguides ended up at my house here in Sweden, my first serious DIY project.
And it sounds very good, and is hard to beat.

What's funny is I was posting in those threads! Forgot all about it, but it has been a decade. Would it possible for you to get some better pics? So i can see the throat and get idea of the wall profile? That would be really helpful.

Now I know why you ignored my post here... sorry if I offended you. I'll be where you think I should based on your post in my thread. Take care

I didn't ignore your post at all, I just don't reply to every post. Look man, I don't dislike you in the least bit. I hope only peace for you. I know you're in pain. I just wish you wouldn't hurt others needlessly in the meantime.

Sorry for late answer augerpro, but here is info.

Its 177 mm wide and 126 mm i high, 40 mm deep including mountingplate (5 mm), so shape is made on 35 mm deep.
It was cut out from a rectangular shape, so 5-7 mm in top/bottom/left side/right side are flat at the endings.

So angle is 165 mm and 115 mm on the 35 mm in high of the waveguide.

Regards John

Great, thanks for the reply! Does the profile curve more tightly at the throat, or is it just a continuation of the wall profile all the way?
Your welcome

The angle is very like a Trumpet.
And yes the profile curve more tightly at the throat.

I try to skiss the curve-line on the photo, because its hard to take a good pic.

Tell me if you want more/better photos or some other info, its night here in Sweden so no daylight for photo.

Regards John

@augerpro

Have you purchased this higher sensitivity hard dome for use in a WG?

lil birdie told me that there is a neo motor based SB26CDC in the hands of OEMs...

I wonder if we can somehow bump into Dave Pellegrene and muster up a group buy for 50 pairs...

Now that's interesting news. The Be picks up 2 dB at 10khz, and the fabric SB29 picks up almost 5 dB at 10khz with the neo motor. I'm not sure the SB26CDC will be able mate to a high sensitivity 8" with the neo motor, but it will sure opening possibilities in the 87-89 dB sensitivity area. Have you heard of any plan to bring these to market?

And no I have not purchased them. I have a lot on my plate for the next year. I was trying to get my speaker shipped off to Erin but then got covid on my days off from work.

I have read the theory dome tweeter break-down till their Fs and some designers prefers higher Fs if after the hd is low. That's above my head.
But what I know is the A20 mg option was often used and still around 3k hz +. And it sounds interresting with no fatigue. So I imagine you can lowish that number with your WG. 2k hz perhaps ? That would be great.

I purcgased the 22 taf/g cause very good price here in France and its break-ups above 20 k looks like a Be. And also because some said it is sounding like the OW1. Perhaps with removing the ferrofluid thanks a WG ir could be a competitor of the sb26cac but with more nervous motor ?

When I see the price of the Mg tweeter from Fostex I am tempted. But that incredible low disto from the sb26 hard domes is ruling. Has it soul is another story. I have heard neither (no time for that for the moment)

Perhaps Audax's users have to notch the Fs ? If DSP it is ok if passive this is more parts on the signal path !
