Sorry to bring up an old thread, but i'm thinking of using the D8G (8" yellow cone) as a subwoofer in a small (30l) enclosure.
Has anyone got experience with this driver?
Cheers

I got myself a set of K1s and B4N's from the current clearence Jaycar has on the drivers so am looking for a mini bookshelf design with these as Somputer speakers. I am thinking of adapting the Buggless desing, replacong the tn25 with the k1- adjusting the L-Pad for difference in efficiency. Therwas an MMTM with B4n and K1 but I have mnot seen small 2 way with these speakers. any other ideas?

Shame I only just found this thread! Could've saved me some hard earned cash! Sorry for the resurrection but thought it was worth mentioning that Jaycar here in South Aus are still indeed selling what looks like HiVi drivers under the 'response' brand, even though it's a paper driver not the alu driver.
4" Paper: 4 Paper Cone Woofer/Midrange | Jaycar Electronics
4" Alu: Product information:B4N bass-midrange
The alu drivers are used in the popular overnight sensations:

I've just ordered 2x HiVi B4N drivers from parts express US delivered to AUS for $88 AUD and jaycar currently selling the paper cone version for $24.95 AUD each making it just under $50 AUD for the pair.
Once I build my overnight sensations I still want to buy a jaycar driver and chuck it in the box and listen side by side for a comparison between the alu and paper driver. With my ears, I'm hoping (and fairly confident) that I won't be able to tell much of a difference and hopefully some local aussies will be able to build the overnight sensations for around $200 instead of the $300+ price tag at the moment (buying from parts express with US>AUD $ conversion).

Well, this thread ain't got much love but I did what I said (and then forgot to update this sooner) and I built a pair of 'Aussie Sensations' using the Jaycar 4" woofer and different xover to compare to the 'Overnight Sensations' and honestly, I'd say 9/10 people blind tested wouldn't be able to tell the difference! Everything is different in my design except the use of the same tweeter. Enclosure volume is similar, different tuning, different xover and importantly, affordable for the aussies! Overnight sensations just cost way too much to build here in Aus so they sort of lose the appeal a little but they're still great speakers!
If anyone is keen on some build guides or design plans etc then let me know and maybe I can work something up 🙂
