Ayo . . .

I have to set up my own living room far away from my family.
In my new living room, I plan to have a small music system.
So, I'm buying one set of ATC SCM7 monitor speakers.
Which diy amp should I consider (I mean one of Papa's)?
Any tip?

For your info, I don't need big sound.
I want a clean and warm music with details, nice voices,
good imagination of stage, and deep bass . . .

I'm thinking of X-Zen V2 or F4 at the moment . . .

Give me a good luck, please! Thanks.

F4

dissipation ( you want it small) and power wise- certainly best combo for power hungry ATCs

I wish you good luck!

Power hungry . . . ?
I need to better understand the meaning of it . . .

ATC SCM7 has its size of W160mm x H300mm x D230mm with 84dB/W/m @ 8ohms of closed box with no air vent. The size is a baby. The maker specifies that the baby smiles frequencies of 60Hz to 22 kHz (-6dB).

I have read the critics and some users talking about their different impressions particularly regarding bass region performance of the baby. In the bass region, some say, “Yes” while some say, “Maybe”. But, nobody says, “No”. I think the differences might be coming from their different tastes and different power amps driving the babies. In addition, their receptions of the bass quality could be depending on their predominant feelings of the “addictive to the bass”.

One Japanese near-field-listening critic feeds the babies with his Krell integrated-amp. He says that the smoothness from the mid to high is very good while he gets tight and firm bass from several sorts of music. The bass is not lean, according to him.

Yeah . . . the baby seems power hungry . . .

If so, to make the baby feel full, what should I consider? Just a power amp of manufacturer’s specification having simply more than 50W? Welcome any advice.

give me back my babo ;

my babo isn't guy who complicate things ;

he take iron and few fistfuls of parts and make amp ;

.......................just make F4 and enjoy

:darkside:

or just make that Babofish , because you already have pcbs ;

put 2SJ74BL on input , or whatever you have and it will sing......

feed it with your fave cd,dvd,mp3,telephone , whatever and listen that crazy muzak you like to listen

. . . just . . . ?
ok, much better than bla bla bla . . .

I have thought that the right combination of amp's damping factor
and max capability of current supply might solve the power
hungry problem.

If so, either x-Zen V2 or F4 could be a choice because Zen V2
and F4 have the same DF as well as both do good current supply.

Do you agree?

I always agree with you .........

have you any link where we can see more info about those spks?

impedance modulus etc are important .....

regarding power hunger ....... I still think that F4 , being dreky B class amp with hoppity hoppity hop character is maybe best solution....

just give him live enough PS ........ besides - you already have some xperience with somewhat similar topology - your not so symetric amp.... with jfets in input stage

What? . . .
Which meat are you using for BBQ these days?

Yes, it is now driving J-low, pumping out Beethoven, Missa Solemnis,
Otto Lemperer, into the deep night. I mean this time I'm writing this . . .

If they are anything like the SCM10 count on a 200W+ and mucho current to get them going...

About ten years ago, I listened to the SCM10. Still, I remember
the beutiful violin sound . . .

I had SCM20, and gave it Papa's Zen power. I still remember
Nirvana, Unplugged In New York, heard from the system . . .
Sure, it was "Zen" that empowered SCM20 to sing.

Hmm . . . immediately reminded me of SCM7 when I wanted to buy
one baby speakers this time. I gave the order and signed the bill.
I will receive the baby set mid next week.

OK, I will try Zen V5 (with jfet input) . . .
Then, will try X-Zen V2 . . .
Then, might try F4 . . .
Then, might try Aleph-J or Babelfish . . .
Also, I might try the bi-amping with flea watt amp and F4 . . .

Will inform you . . .

. . . would choose an LS3/5 relative . . .

LS3/5A . . .

I remember. Once you asked me why I needed that big when I
posted my picture of J-Low. Remember . . . ?

Actually, I like low sound level when I listen to the music. I'd like
to confess that 95% of my music is at low level and 5% at loud
level. In this respect, J-Low is perfect for me. The Jordan's single
corns make me satisfied with the 95% of low sound music while
the big horns give me full satisfaction with the 5% of loud music.
So, J-Low makes me happy 100% with what I want.

In everyday life, I think too much this and that. All different types
of thinking occupy my poor brain. They are bad viruses . . . It's a
pain. But, often, the viruses step back . . . and small dolls come
in, holding old and new musical instruments. I open my eyes and
see them, playing small but sweet music . . . mmm . . .

I like LS3/5A relative speakers.
I like to get it back, Heifetz, Bruch Concerto No.1 in G Minor . . .
which I loved through Zen and SCM20 . . .

Who looks for only the large systems? Complain Papa . . .

Hi Babo

I think I understand what you are trying to describe..In the 1980s I discovered that all the class A amps that I listened to far better preserved the dynamics at lower levels. I concluded(rightly or wrongly) that all class A amps preserved the dynamics at low levels. As I lived in a large house with 18x20' rooms this really was not a consideration. Now I have a 12x12 listening room and I have an F2 and an F4 and EL34 SE and they play beautiful music through my fostex voigts......but they can't keep the low level dynamics like my electrostats with KT88 power...go figure

If you can afford to give up a little of your space for the speakers I recommend you try electrostats in a small room. At low listening levels I have never found anything that keeps the dynamics like them.

Regards

Ed

I tried a pair of SCM7's in my secondary system. The amp was high quality but not high current (50wpc, 10A). It was a bit of a mess, too bright for comfortable listening. I replaced them with a pair of FR125S full-rangers which I love. So I would agree with everyone else here, you need high power and good current delivery for the ATC's.
