DAC jitter should've been compared to digital photography, not film.I think a camera analogy is perfect here. Jitter is focus and film quality. More in focus means more details and more dramatic. Also better film means better hue and natural color.
...
Same here with jitter.
Spending money on perception only has never been a good idea.If you are convinced you don't need it then you don't need it. That simple.
The sound quality for a cell phone has improved a lot in the past 10 years. Indeed, I'm OK with it and could live with it. But I just couldn't help pursuing a better life as an audiophile by developing better solutions. Yes, I believe that's my problem.
As for commercial development, audiophile products are really bad. Some technical standard levels are crazy and even higher than a medical device. But the market is tiny and very difficult to make money. It's really not worth it from this point of view.

Hello,
BUT now there are loads of people who take real average photos with their 3000 Euro equipment because they never read the manual nor read a book about photography. They will switch lenses because they think it need to be switched.
His neighbour just uses the same camera for 10 years , just a standard fixed lens but one that needs less light. He uses it regularly doesnt need to check the manual, knows a bit about composition. So 80 % of his photos are pretty good and 20% are special while the other one will shoot 15 good ones during a 3 week holiday.
Nice sound is important but know a little about music will make it much more special.
Greetings, Eduard

Thought about it... then I'd get every cheap device has a 4k camera now! And that's ok cause every $100 DAC is also pretty darned good with an NDK clock in it. Do we Need any of this stuff? No, but I ordered ReclockPi before morning coffee today 🙂DAC jitter should've been compared to digital photography, not film.
Me..I perceive this picture is more pleasing because its in focus.Spending money on perception only has never been a good idea.
Other guy.. I can't see any difference. You are nuts!
Me.. Can I get you your glasses?🙂
Now back to Asynchronous FIFO topic

A good idea could be spending money on learning.
Taking picture to present what you want would fit that. If you are performing music as the way you want would warrant whatever the amount you want to spend on equipment because you are the artist. When someone represents your photo or the recording of your musical performance, then it's the closeness to your work that determines the quality of representation performance. In DAC's case, the audibly transparent level has been reached already. Going beyond (measurably even more transparent) that is just a marketing ploy.Thought about it... then I'd get every cheap device has a 4k camera now! I would suggest that the prophet's minions invest at least a little time to learn electronics
Crash Course Electronics and PCB Design | Udemy
Requirements
A modern Windows PC (or VM) capable of running various CAD and design tools used in this course such as Altium CircuitMaker, Labcenter Proteus, Matlab, and more.
A High School or equivalent understanding of mathematics.
Since the course is about electronics, to get the full benefit of the course, you will need to follow along and build the circuits. Thus, access to breadboards, power supplies, tools, parts, etc.
A lot of patience! This is a university level course with many 1 hour lectures. There's a lot of material to cover, and we are here to learn this cold, inside and out!
@Evenharmonics,
if you want I can sign up you for the course.
Please, let me know.

Yes, we know. The excess is the selling point.Going beyond (measurably even more transparent) that is just a marketing ploy.

No, it is actually a pretty bad analogy. Jitter has nothing to do with resolution (the equivalent of focus / film quality. Jitter is more like shutter speed, and we have already reached levels (with normal consumer gear) that are faster than any motion you might want to take a picture of.

Evenharmonics, if we are discussing sample rate I fully agree with you. I can clearly hear a small improvement in quality in a well recorded and mastered piece at 176.4 than the same piece down sampled to 44.1. But it is not significant enough that I will pay more for the gear or the music. It is in my case mere marketing noise from weak marketing department scratching for a differentiator.
But we are talking about jitter. IME I went from NDK 45/48 clocks to NDK SDA. There was a small improvement which I appreciated. But I would not chuck out a DAC and replace it if that's all there was. For a $20 investment and an hour of work, it was well worth it to me. I seriously asked myself if there would be a law of diminishing returns that would prevent any further gain. Jumping to the 2019 version of TWTMC 45mHz was a more substantial commitment in time and money. I openly questioned if it would be worth it and promised to report my impressions. It was a substantial upgrade. The kind of upgrade you would hope for if you were trading in your retail DAC for the much hyped new DAC. And a similar improvement was gained with the recent upgrading to the SOTA 5mHz clock. Based on what I have seen from the phase noise plots vs my perceived improvement in sound, I have little doubt that Ian's ReclockPi will pay dividends in allowing me to hear the full capability of WTMC. Andrea's new FIFO/reclock innovations measure well and will likely bring its own level of transparency.
Your subjective listening impression may be impressive to you. Too bad it can't be transferred through internet so that others can see it on their screen.Based on what I have seen from the phase noise plots vs my perceived improvement in sound,
Too bad the troll (I would say the minion) doesn't know anything about how a DAC works.
Maybe the members of this thread don't know so it's best to let them know.
He doesn't know how a ladder DAC works, he doesn't know how a Sigma-Delta DAC works, he doesn't know what different time domain means, he doesn't know the relation between a sine and a square wave and so on.
But he is very smart copying and pasting always the same comment.

Good analogy.
Now the first violin has arrived, I wonder when the conductor will arrive to enlighten us with his fantastic AP tool.
Agreed. Word skills often fail. And enthusiasm often irritates. But that's served me well and I remain comfortable in the knowledge that people can just ignore me if they fear a contagion. So be it.Your subjective listening impression may be impressive to you. Too bad it can't be transferred through internet so that others can see it on their screen.
No amount of word skill can transfer your subjective listening impression through the internet to others to a degree that measurement comparison can.Word skills often fail.
The curious fact is that here someone talks about measurements without knowing what is being measured.
He could use the ruler, the thermometer, the anemometer or whatever you want.
He will always be satisfied with the measurements, because he does not know what he is measuring.

Hello Andrea,
You should enjoy some music, with some Parmesan cheese and some wine.
Or read a real book like my two Vietnamese friends.
Or enjoy childhood memories.
Or find another artistic hobby.
Greetings,Eduard
