It is however a case where the German word is so much more satisfying 'Tonstudiotechnik'. Concise, meaningful and rolls nicely off the tongue 🙂
Sometimes the special possibilities of the german language help...
In his original Hoeg wrote ".... möglichst original-ähnlichen Höreindruck zu erzielen" .
I think that's about on par with the QUAD strapline 🙂
It is; i should have remembered it .... 🙂
I understand DF96's point - we could have a situation where for some people a distorted reproduction is still indistinguishable from the real thing behind a curtain.
Being indistinguishable would be a good enogh standard for me - the question is what band to put behind the curtain.
How about Chicago?

actually I have just been reminded I need to listen to marriage of figaro recording I have. Been so long I can't remember label (think decca). The footsteps of the singers moving around helps locate them on the stage and helps the mind put together the illusion of the venue. At least for me.
Can we please avoid name calling? It's not going to help solve or settle anything. It does tend to escalate arguments into more and more tribal behavior.
You're right.
I'll shut up.

I would have imagined the placement of the voices would be less difficult than counting how many steps the singer took. What if it were a woman that took fast small steps, you would actually perceive her in the wrong position. 😕
Furthermore, would it be correct to assume if your speakers were incorrectly phase that the singers would move in the other direction or would you be simply sitting behind the scene.
Who now spends money on component HI-FI now we have big screen, surround sound Smart HD TVs and hundreds of cable channels, and not forgetting computer gaming and time wasting forums?
I find it incredible, that besides all the above some, manage to find the time to diddle around with vinyl.

It is the definition that stood for decades until the New-Age fairies descended on our hobby in the '80s.
Where did you get the idea that this definition stood for decades?
Hoeg published his approach in 1970 and still stands by it and if you care to read the papers that were published after the first open public demonstration in 1933 you´ll surely note that the authors reference was the live performance.
Fortunately the AES made these symposium papers free to download:

I rather like being called a New Age fairy. It feels like a promotion from being a tree hugging, sandal wearing vegetarian. Which I actually am/was! 😀Can we please avoid name calling? Jakob, Charles already voluntarily agreed to deescalate in one exchange. Please take that as a sign of personal introspection and consider some degree cooperation in such efforts. In other words, if you could please try to say what you have to say in a most neutral way, without undertones of the previous tit-for-tat exchanges, it will probably help segue into a friendlier exchange or discussion. Thank you.
Good humour can help.
Timing has been said to be everything in comedy. Barely suppressed giggles and belly laughs sometimes add to a humorous effect. Hard to pull off such things reliably in text.
For speakers, yes. For DACs, preamps, amps and cables, no. DACs covert signlas, preamps direct line level signals, amps amplify, cables carry electrical signals. What's so diverging about each component?there exists such a broad range of diverging reproduction systems or elements,
What's perceptual about measurements of input and output signals? 🙄but the fact that we still have to rely (need to do) perceptual evaluations means that we still not know enough.

The particular spectrum and type of distortion components?

It appears that one does that intentionally to muddy up the water. There are online shills all over the forums and their affiliation is with selling business, typically with high-end audio electronics. You see, if the "water" is cleared up for potential buyers to see that paying more for component isn't going to gain them the sonic quality, the sellers of such components will try to muddy it back up in an attempt to maintain their cash flow. 😉They are confusing preference with hi-fi. This confusion is endemic on this forum.

Quite a tale. You aren't an investigative reporter here undercover by any chance?
You must be a shill for that company. 🙄The particular spectrum and type of distortion components?

Nope. I do think they are reputable though. Can't say that for everyone though. All kinds of people in the world. Some are willing to play nice, and there are always moderators for those who are more responsive to that approach. Wish it were otherwise.
