Its been said in other posts in this thread,
Asbestos is dangerous..Factories are allowed to get away with old installations as long as it sealed (Old pipe work is a major problem) A lot of guys I know that were pipefitters over the last 30 years now have asbestosis..Its not funny either to see them with an Oxygen bottle so they can breath..
However its also in some artex on old buildings and used as lagging and fire proofing..For the Diyer its a case of knowing about it..for those already exposed its a bit late..Like the slag from power stations used in some building blocks in the 70's..(drilling for shelf mounting etc)

There are differing types of asbestos, blame the "blue" type for causing serious health problems.White type is mixed with cement which renders it harmless, unless one uses a saw to cut it without water; Diesel is a world-wide carcinogenic, solder fumes contain all sorts, the french and others burn rubber tyres on protests, so I'm not going to fritter about this.
