I don't particularly prefer either, both should work fine.
You can fold the tapered pipe as desired, providing the taper ratio, and the CSA of the throat and the terminus are maintained.

Another question, Narrowing should by conical or can i fold it 3-4 times to achieve needed CSA?
Assuming that the cab will have parallel walls and the internal divider(s) are simple flat boards, then the expansion (contraction) is parabolic.
