Anybody into older, classic looking gear?

Heh... I've got a 1970s Marantz preamp and tuner, and I'm running a Hafler DH-200 into some maggies... Only things "new" (well, the maggies are only a coupla years old, but I think they qualify as "old school") are the cable box and the SACD player.

I sure like this forum, got a classic black Marantz 2238 on the bench together with a Mitsubishi DA-A10DC and Thorens TD166
Also the Onkyo p308 is a marvelous piece (discrete opamp design dc coupled etc)

Currently I am testdriving a Yamaha pc2002m, i like those big meters and big/bulky heatsinks on the side (8 sanken devices on each side) easy to repair too.
I wish I didn't through/give away a classic Braun regie 500 series, well we could go on forever ;-)

Perhaps is was already posted, but this is a great site too for vintage:

Akai m-9 , akai's first solid-state reel-to-reel.
My parents neighbours were about to put it in the trash.
A knob and two switches missing, but still working 🙂

parts for rt-909 and yamaha c65 preamp

Hi vintage lovers,

Where do you get parts for your treasures at reasonable prices?

I need two new pinch rollers for pioneer rt-909 and a new recording head. The only sources I have found so far are Vintage-electronics, which sells new pinch rollers for US$30 and JRF, which sells new original heads for US$145.

The only alternatives are Nortronics replacement heads for US$65, which sounds resonable - does anybody used or knows more about Nortronics heads for rt-909? What is their life span? Are they somilar or better than originals? I am really disappointed with Pioneer for using hard permaloy heads.

I am also looking for tone control pots for yamaha c65 preamp. These two main pots are 200k centre detent S curve and have four pins per channel with the fourth one being conductive path from the centre tap. The centre (fourth pin) is connected to the preamp's ground. Does anyone know a source of these pots? Maybe somewhere in Japan or wherever some vintage lovers have some spares?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks,
cheers

classic gear

Absolutely. I'm mainly into video but I have been using a 1973 Sansui AU 505 model amplifier and rank wharefedale (rosedale series) speakers every day for the past eight years
Before that it was at my parents place

They bought all this in 1973 brand new

hey there people. hehe, i can call myself a hifi gipsy 🙂 all my hifi stuff was given to me or found. i have actually never bought a single item except material for an amp i made in high school.

ok, i have the following stuff:

-reVox B77 for sale
-reVox B750 mkII int. amp
-reVox B790 turntable
-reVox BX4100 speakers (they need some work, check them out!)
-some old Dual 3 way speakers
-RIZ 2 way speakers from former Yugoslavia, excelent
-Tecnics cd-player, higher series from mid 90's, don't know the model at the moment.
-Yamaha 800W 30 kg monster, don't know the model either 🙂

i will post some pics when i get to my pc.

I very much enjoy vintage audio gear. I have a kenwood kr-4070 receiver that found on the curb about 12 yrs ago and it still works great and i also have a carver hr752 receiver that i very much enjoy with my large advents circa 1973 .I haven't found a pair of speakers that i would enjoy more than these any way i thing that the 60-70s were a great time for audio gear.

Ahhh...good thread.

I've been using a slightly updated Yamaha Ca-800 for a couple years, been through a bunch of dynaco tube stuff. My current project is a Sansui 500A I picked up for $40, it's cosmetically mint, almost works 🙂 The guy I bought it from was shocked that I offered him so much for it.
I also like my Thorens td 125mkII, still needs some work though. It's been a wacky couple of months(years?) for me, but it looks like I'll finally have some time and money to get back on track with these sidelined projects. (Dave, I'm finally sending those things I mentioned last month... sorry)

I've got a lead on three, working b77s for a $100 each... is it worth it?
