Any old hippie should know that once you have gathered your friends in a secluded meeting place, with a pitcher of electric orange juice freshly emptied, the stereo must be playing some Moody Blues. Start with In Search of the Lost Chord, then follow with On the Threshold of a Dream.
"Take another sip my love and see what you will see,
A fleet of golden galeons on a crystal sea.
Are you sitting comfortably?
Let Merlin cast his spell.
Ride along the winds of time and see where we have been,
The golden age of Camelot when Guinevere was queen,
It all unfolds before your eyes as Merlin casts his spell.
The seven wonders of the world lie before your feet.
In far off lands on distant shores so many friends to meet
Are you sitting comfortably?
Let Merlin cast his spell."
Its amazing how you can't remember what you did yesterday, but events that happened 40 years ago are permanently etched in your brain.

Hmm,
I guess this band is unknown in the US :
YouTube - Sweet Smoke - Just A Poke Part 1
(All genuine US hippies, emigrated to Germany to avoid Vietnam... And I started learning alto recorder 😎)
Another one :
YouTube - Sweet Smoke - Silly Sally (cut)
ENJOY 🙂

I have never heard of them. After listening to a few YouTube songs I conclude that they have a familiar sound, but I can't place it. The vocals and lead guitar on Ocean of Fears sounds like Quicksilver Messenger Service. One poster called it HASH POP! I might even get the live CD.

Old enough to have seen Jimi live in concert!
When I was a lad, teens didn't have credit cards.
I'm starting to think that I keep going to the wrong parts of Canada.
Nope, not credit cards. Social Insurance Cards + Bank Cards (my bank was the first worldwide with ATMs ... 1977, but by 1980 every bank branch in Canada as well as every second gas station and convenience store had them installed, and they used the same system so you could use any bank's machine or use your card at any ATM anywhere in Canada. I remember having to drive from Little Rock to West Memphis, AR to find an ATM that was on the right network for my Minneapolis-based bank, this would be around 1992.
I called it a "Bank Card" for the benefit of US readers of this site; the proper name is "Debit Card" but that term means something different in the US. In the US they are also called "Check Cards".
That was one of the things I noticed the first time I visited the US as an adult ... people paid for stuff with checks there all the time; I saw people writing checks at McDonalds. I've probably written about two hundred checks in my life; these days it's 12~14 a year, and that's only because I give post-dated ones to pay my shop rent. Since the 80's in Canada everyone uses a debit card for everything if they're not using cash or credit card.

I have to admit I spent MUCH more time as a teen listening to QMS than Moody Blues. Our band covered their version of Who Do You Love and an offbeat arrangement of Gold and Silver.
How about "Captain Beyond" with the 3-D (sort of) cover on the album? Songs like "Thousand Days of Yesterday" and "Dancing Madly Backwards".

Head up the coast SY. We'll not only show you what real beer tastes like, we'll tell you how to pronounce about. 😉
Did you ever see that movie called "Canadian Bacon"? When the American's invade Canada they come into a Mountie station and when the Mountie says "about" an American shoves a gun into his gut and says "We have ways of making you pronounce the letter "O"." It is a funny movie. You should check it out if you haven't seen it.
Last night I listened to two albums by Bill Nelson(Be bop Deluxe)the albums are called Whimsy 1&2 if you like the hippie trippy stuff you will not find better than this but you need good gear. Wonderful stuff this is like zappa, with Tom Verlaine vocals i will be playing this one to death!!!
Bill Nelson
I have been listening to Bill since Be Bop Deluxe days, and although he is hard to catagorize, I do NOT consider him "hippy trippy". How about new wave, especially in his post-Be Bop days?
He was quite capable of playing a mean Hendrix-style guitar in his beBop days, however. Is this what you mean?

Friend of mine, helped his dad clean out a apartment that his dad owned.. that had been used for growing. The guy had been busted. The police took everything, of course. He was cleaning the kitchen, and opend a cupboard. Looked in and found.. 10 kilos of gold stamp Black. Quietly closed the cupboard, and helped his dad clean -elsewhere-. Anywhere but the kitchen. And then came back later, on his own.....
OK, story time some more....
(warning, nothing at all to do with music or audio)
While at university, heard a news story of the local cops being called to investigate a trawler losing control and ramming a disused pier while trying to dock in the local harbor. They arrived and quickly discovered the craft to be laden with some fine imported weed (over-laden and badly bow-heavy, as it turns out, hence the dorking it gave the pier).
Long story short, bad seamanship and the local LEO's had inadvertantly hosed a DEA op that had the shipment and various individuals under serveilance for some time. Once the hurt feelings and jurisdictional issues were sorted out, an appointment was made with a local paper mill to use their furnaces to dispose of the bales. A friend of a friend, an employee at the yard where the impounded boat was tied up, ran the fork lift that was used to move the bales from the boat to the trucks waiting on the adjacent pier. When the work was done and local cops and DEA boys all gone, our hero noticed that just about every horizontal surface, nook, and cranny on the front part of the fork lift was heaped with leafy green stuff. He looked both ways, grabbed the only containers readily at hand, his boots, and "secured" the rest of the contraband, which we enjoyed for quite some time afterward, smug in the knowledge that it had actually been brought onto U.S. soil by "the man" himself.
But have you listened to the piace in question. its alicw in wonderland, the wizard of oz pure phsycedelia marvelous pair of cds 😀😀😀I have been listening to Bill since Be Bop Deluxe days, and although he is hard to catagorize, I do NOT consider him "hippy trippy".
