Any experiences with Faital 12PR320 : 12" driver for 40-500 Hz

Thus, I think top priority for a group project is to target the latter group, something that would appeal for a lot of folk and is very reasonable in price
Nice to know that there are more of us sharing the same understanding, there is something lacking in terms of "reasonable cost and good sound" type of easy project, and "bang per buck" is something of a passion of mine.

A final digression on "the project", last one, perhaps ever:
Regarding port noise on the original project I was quite clear about the fact that flat ports do have their downsides, but if implemented in a specific way can help control cone movement near the power limit of the design, and be part of the bracing structure at the same time. That said, I was never "married" to the concept of flat ports, it is all in the implementation, if the implementation calls for other solutions I am easily convinced, and in this specific scenario I was quite specific that it would be less than ideal under the constraints given.

Future possibilities, subjective.
I do have some clear goals, and a name, and a potential series, all those boxes ticked.
I think it is beneficial to do this as a group effort because noone is perfect, and like most amplifiers we all need a bit of feedback to reach a good end result.

The journey.
I am considering doing everything myself and potentially offer a "closed source" recipe, or it could be a "closed" group effort, or an "open" group effort, it is important to decide this in the starting phase but nothing is decided yet, nothing has started except what has been brewing in my mind for years.
If anyone else is willing and able, it is possible to look into it, I would love to see a good sounding lower cost solution for people to enjoy and have fun with, and I would be proud to take part in the journey.

Is top performance at a reasonable price too much to ask for ?

Transducers don't have to be expensive to be capable in their dedicated passband.

Indeed, are you volunteering?

I am in the middle of a diy project of a sort. We moved in autumn 2024 but there is still lots of work around the house. But a soon as i finish it 😉

And what is expensive? Where to draw the line?

Well, that question must come with a context.

You were discussing, if i'm not mistaken, how expensive OSMC is. So, transducers that i proposed are much less expensive than Volt/ScanSpeak from the original project. I have exact same drivers and when i finish my current diy project mentioned earlier, i intend to do a three way with transducers above. I have a lot more ideas but i think it wouldn't be fair to suggest drivers that i don't own. This way i feel like i've put my money where my mouth is 🙂

YOu still can do it less espensive, especially on that Faital .The Faital 12FE330 cost less and can do the same. A few hundred € is for a lot of people a lot of money. If your drivers alone cost +400€, a lot will bugger off beause it's to expensive. That is the reality of today.

But off course it will always cost a lot to build yourself as drivers are sold way more expensive to diy'ers than to companies (mainly because of the small orders diy people make). But there are still great drivers arround that are very cheap.

One can try Qtc 0,5: sealed 98 litres fully stuffed inside and low pass 12db filter around 200 hz gives F6 42 hz , F10 : 35 hz....

I am pretty sure it is perhaps better with the FE330.

But the verity is the pr320 is not a hifi bass driver but à PA woofer. It has not high xmax as well so distorsion will increase in sealed.
Its plus is certainly the Lively neodinium .

I agree. There are cheaper transducers. These are the one's that i consider to have the best value (performance/price ratio) for my budget. I did buy 12pr320 for 198 euros/pair though - there was a very good discount at TLHP. On the other hand, i don't drive expensive car or do expensive holidays.

That's the problem with group efforts, as KaffiMann said. You have to satisfy the needs of other people. That's why i bought what i bought and the only person i had to indulge was ... well me.

Thanks. Character forming and life changing indeed. One learns (if he hasn't already) how delayed gratification works. When you buy an empty piece of land, everything has to be done, nothing can be done quickly, but if you work hard - it all adds up. It doesn't matter how large or small the job is you've done today. Exactly that much less remains to be done tomorrow untill you can take your family there. I knew next to nothing about plumming, tile setting, house wiring or underfloor heating - but i end up diying that (and much more) all to meet the code.

As Abraham Lincoln once said: 'You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.' Fact of life.
