And what did we buy today?

I got another music synthesizer partial kit, just the PCB and front panel. it looks like it might take a year to find all the parts needed to finish it. Complete kits are not available from JSI as they can't get the parts either. I expected to have trouble finding the CPU, but I have them. It seems that things like opamps, LDO's, and even SMD capacitors are out of stock at the usual places.

That's one I haven't seen before. I've been considering building one of these, it was a project I couldn't afford in the 70's.

I have bought and tried a few DeWalt tools lately. I got a warehouse deal on an XR drill but it was damaged - hammer didn't work. I return it.
I bought the Atomic hammer drill/2 battery and charger combo on sale but it was a toy and I returned it.
I bought the Atomic 1/2 impact to try, and while it was quite powerful for it's size, I returned it and got a warehouse deal on the top model XR instead. Twice the zise and power for 70$ more and it came with a 5AH battery and charger, the Atomic was a bare tool.

Other than that, I bought a baby bottle of tequila (200mL) and a 6 pack of garbage beer (Busch).
I will NEED to buy some gas next time I leave the house - Regular is now 2.029$/litre in Toronto. Premium ranges from 2.10$ to 2.45$ now! I wish I had booked flights to Montréal when I booked the hotel! It now costs more for the gasoline to drive there than I was gonna pay to fly.
Even the hotel is now more than twice what I paid to book.

More fishing gear. Eventually I’ll luck out and buy something that will actually catch me a fish.
Well it finally worked. All 11 beautiful inches of Rainbow trout.

Snagged another pair of Sony SS-M3 speakers on eBay. Got a good deal, presumably since they've been painted black (don't care, they actually look kinda good), and the grilles are missing (don't care, I don't use them anyway).

I've been looking for a pair of nice speakers for the little studio I'm slooowly putting together in an unused bedroom, and it occurred to me that I could apply mostly the same DSP treatment to these that I've been using with much success & enjoyment in the main audio rig, which uses 5 of these same speakers. This because the DSP corrections I'm using are mostly about driver correction & crossover; any room corrections are separate EQ bands, and can simply be deleted/replaced for the different room. Sounds good on paper; we'll see if it sounds good in the ears.

Next day, I toured a neighbourhood area sale; turnout wasn't great due to light rain. R0DE VideoMic GO for $5, which while it looks serious, has an appalling lack of shielding and is nearly unusable near WiFi sources or LED lighting; also, doesn't work with my Canon AVCHD camcorder which lacks plug-in power on the mic jack. For more on the VideoMic GO, see here: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...omic-go-or-should-i-make-a-mic-myself.342938/
A few blocks away, a Sony ECM-GZ1M "Gun/zoom Microphone" for $2, broken/dislocated between the base and body. I was able to open it up and "set" the break, but the connector on the shoe doesn't match any of my camcorders; if it doesn't fit a friend's camera, I'll discard the Sony electronics and wire it to work with 3.5 mm plug-in power.

Bought a little while ago but just got round to opening up and fixing.
12.5 kilos of CD Player... Sony 338ESD. At the local Scout Hall jumble sale (for the price of 3 litres of gasoline)
Top condition but wouldn't load discs and the sticker on the top said so. I paid their full asking price !
A new loading belt and a little lubrication and it purrrrs. 😎

I mis-placed my 'good' Peltor 30+dB muffs.
The Fnova 34dB came, just in time. I went to mow and the Peltor muffs fell apart. I bodged them, mowed down the driveway, came back and the UPS delivery truck chased me.

The Peltors' ear-bit 'snaps' into the main cup and had lost its snap. This may be a known flaw because I saw another brand touting a 'welded joint' here. There's another cup, and several foam pieces. The foam is not fresh as new, but these are AFAICT from 2007.

The Fnova 34 are built very much the same. They may not be as deaf. It seems the same product can rate 25dB or 34dB by how they bend the rules. The Fnova data has Standard Deviation of 6.6dB @ 2kHz... that may even be real-world on real users but 6dB of slop in lab-test goes beyond carelessness?

Howard Leight L1 has SD of 2.4dB @ 2kHz, so 6dB slop is not inevitable. A lot of people like these. The price is not high.

The Fnova folds, slightly. The Peltor and Leight do not.

Peltor Over Head Ear Muffs H10a Optime 105, Double Shell Tech --- $31 today
Fnova 34dB NRR -- $15
Howard Leight by Honeywell Leightning L1 Shooting Earmuff (R-01524) -- $17

You say "Peltor is 3M, a brand you can trust", but Leight is Honeywell which is historically solid-goods. (But they orphaned my good thermostat...)
