Think active (multi-way), and think Line Array. 😉
I hope Scott didn't put me in ignore, because I agree with him 🙂

>>> but I'm a little worried if in going that big I'd lose what I've really fallen in love with in my 4.5 inch...
I have the 127e, 165k and 168s... the bigger fostex drivers sound better to me. They just sound more relaxed and less stressed. Could be a frequency response artifact of the 127e but i really prefer the larger drivers overall. The sigma driver seems the most composed at high volumes. It clearly is built to a higher standard too. Materials used are not your typical pressed steel frame and you feel like you purchased something of substance. I remember getting the 165k and thinking they were lightweight and insubstantial. But they do sound good. The 168s has an overall fuller and more confident sound at higher volumes but i do prefer the 165k in my BIB overall even tho it wont go as loud.

My job ships all my stuff so cost of shipping isn't an issue. I'm a little more concerned about needing a room at least 6 meters deep... that's a pretty big room! I'm guessing that will mean looking into some other options. Are those measurements pretty similar for all of the double mouthed horns or can the room shrink with the smaller versions?
As the distance between mouths decreases, the listening distance can decrease. As the size shrinks, the bass falls off and they can usually get a bit closer to the wall behind.
The smaller double horns use smaller drivers so for reduced size you get less bass & less efficiency (but also usually better mids & top)

I'll second the idea of a BIB with the FE206e, assuming you can get it close to a wall. Lots of bass from a single driver.
Another idea would be a Half Chang with the FE206e. I know this isn't the recommended driver, but with a BSC of 1 mH and R of 5.5 ohms, I found this to be quite good. The lows roll off more than with the FE207e, but I am pleased with the highs of the FE206e without a tweeter--which I think I would want to use if I had the FE207e. The FE206e HC reaches down to the 30 Hz region, and with some authority. The pair I built are in my daughter and son-in-law's family room where they seem to handle movies and video games quite well. The true HT aficionado would demand a sub, but the HCs have enough bass to satisfy the kids.
Cheers, Jim

That'd make two of us😀
=============
A question for BIB guys:
How is the sound quality of a typical (well built and tuned) BIB in midrange? (compared to other equally well built and tuned box types including no box -- OB)
I thought I had asked before but got no direct answer.
It's a pity I've never listened to a BIB. I got zero doubt in its capability in bass and dynamics. I'd like to know how's the midrange.
Thanks in advance 🙂

heh heh heh. Fodder for innuendo GALORE.😀
It sounds like at the end of the day I better just sit on my hands and wait. Since the room is going to have such a huge impact on design choices I better at least have an idea of size/shape/etc of the room before I start buying/building.
I guess that just gives me more time to "waste" reading these forums! 🙂
P.S. Get your minds out of the gutter! 😀

You have the tools. And inclination.
You want to build something? Build a set of uFonken. Call them computer speakers. Add a t-Amp, and an iPod and you have a decent hifi you can load into your suitcase.
When i move the last thing packed is the hifi. At the other end the 1st thing unpacked is the hifi.

....
In a perfect world I would want something that stretches down to 30 Hz. I want something very efficient to use with some SET amps.
....
Oh well, we're not in a perfect world.

LOL.. 😀
Nope, I've no one on ignore that I know about. 😉
I only occasionally peruse the website, and often miss a lot of stuff.
