Alternative PSU to ludicrously priced Cyrus PSX-R

I've acquired a Cyrus CDTX SE transport....and am aware of the expensive, matching PSX-R PSU.

As well as being highly priced...this PSU is overkill for my purposes, as I intend to supply ONLY the CD transport.
As I understand it (bear with me here!🙂

)....the smart supply communicates with the load (transport) and delivers appropriate power (+/-21V)
Has anyone discovered a way of circumventing the 'smart' bit, so that a simpler (cheaper!) PSU can be used?

Perhaps there's already a product 'out there' that can be tweaked for purpose??
Any ideas please!??

As your only using the cd transport whats wrong with the supply already there ? How do you think an external supply is going to improve the transports performance ?

...EXACTLY.....is this just another example of audiophoolery??

Folks 'out there' are convinced that there's a benefit....or so they say!
Interesting if supposed benefit could be objectively demonstrated.

The PSXR is just a current enhanced set of 317/337 regs, nothing special about it. In the case of a CDP the current enhancement is probably wasted anyway. Just the addition of one more independent regulated PS will have the same effect.

The PSXR isn't just a more powerful supply it intelligently separates more noisier sections of the CD player .

That is an engineering improvement not an "audiophool " one .

I have the XTSE 2 player + PSU .

If it was just about "a bit more power " I would never have bought it.

OK...this where I came in!! 🙂
Can a sufficient supply be made...or tweaked from an existing product?
Or does Cyrus have me by the 'you know whats' in this respect??!

There are twin transformers in Cyrus equipment .

Sorry Tonewheelkev I haven't got a circuit diagram but I contacted the factory at the time --NOT the dealer and they advised me .

Now everything goes through a dealer I got my equipment upgraded direct from the factory.

You used to be able to buy second hand power supplies in UK hi-fi magazine advertisements for around £200 its a long while since I checked Cyrus's prices but they used to sell at £500.

Are you sure your CD transport has a socket for the external power supply ? Of the models I looked at to get an idea of what the external power supply is supposed to do there was no socket for one on any of them. Maybe yours is a model I didnt look at .

Looks the same as mine except for the plug you have in the power supply socket.

I got the internals updated so on power-up its shows-

XTSE2 on the display what does yours show as that's the proof of MK number ?
Cyrus made many modifications including a SE+, the SE2 was a step above that .

When I finally did get my hands on the unit....my display shows it to be CD XT SE+ ...(the + not being shown on the label at the back!)
Does that imply that at some point, it has undergone an update?

On power up...display shows : Ver4.3 / 2 Nov 2009 / Servo v1.7 / Xt se+

I don't get the power up ver. display but I get the XTSE2, yours is only a slightly older update than mine I upgraded from XTSE+.

Your right yours has been updated its not the standard version .
I cant remember what the changes were but I will try to find paperwork I was sent.
