Ok final dimensions are 36in high, 25in wide, 19in deep. Using 18mm Baltic birch this will give an optimum inner 7.5cuft.
Questions
1. If Altec listed 7.5cuft for the optimum enclosure size for the 416 drivers why did they never offer one?
2. Tuned to 36hz with a 2in x9in slot port gives a great looking response in WINISD. Any issues doing that?
Thanks

Simply because they were interested in maintaining the W.E./Lansing 'Iconic' speaker 'bloodline' up through the 846A and otherwise its 'West Coast Sound' in general that dates to the earliest W.E. systems. As for T/S, it has varied quite a bit over the decades, so even it is a matter of choosing/balancing acoustical, box size, tuning trade-offs.
Haven't used WinISD passed pro alpha, which didn't do slots and yet to learn AkAbak that can and if HR can, didn't find it in searching its HELP file, so AFAIK 'caveat emptor' applies.

I am going thru the same project, could you share some thoughts, photos and dimensions as I have to do a full cabinet build also. Looking forward to it.
Thanks,
Thanks,
I don't see any vent(s), so a Santiago?
Vents might have been turned into quasi-aperiodic with the addition of fabric hiding the original fiberglass ( if still present ).
The owner is very happy with his modified ( second-hand ) Val's >> so I guess it's all a bit moot.
