The Fets are here. The test jig is almost completed and verified. I plan to start testing this coming weekend. For those of you who are interested, the testing for the 610s will be at 20ma which is the current they run at in the P1.7. I am testing at 30c, inside a temp. regulated, insulated box. Fets are mounted 4 at a time on a ZIF socket, clamped to a mounting insulator on a large heatsink and VGS measured. I may also measure at a second current to calculate a trans conductance. I have a conductive work surface, wrist straps, VGS protection built into the test setup and conductive packaging to protect the FETs from static. The gain stage 610s will be matched as close as possible.
The 9610s will be tested at 30ma which is the operating current in the P1.7
Control FETs will be used to check precision of the process.

Regards
Brian

GB update

the pcbs just arrived!

After duties the forcasted cost still holds true, no changes (wheeew).

Now, I am mailing Brian tonight his boards and my 24 fets (610s only) for matching; since I already have them, so might as well use them.

since my other project is moving slowly due to some challenges, I decided to swap priorities and put AlephPs together so I can test the board (before somebody else tells me that something is off). Brian agreed to match my fets first and when they arrive back I will complete the boards and see if I can run everything through the scope.

everybody who made the list: please send me a PM with your mailing address and your Paypal email. I will start looking into mailing costs asap but do not expect much before year end since it is holidays after all.

Merry Xmass :hohoho:

I invoiced six of you today, please pay asap. Thanks.

btw Canada Post is such a ripoff when it comes to registered (a.k.a tracked) int'l shipping. not my fault though!!

for the guys in the U.S.: I am thinking of going by my workplace on Monday statesside (otherwise I am already on vac), so I am likely to ship yours from MI to save you a few bucks. so hold on.

I will have to take some time and see about some other poste services as I realy don't like to pay 40$ for shiping 6PCB...it's insine...
I have pay like 60$ for 5kg CDplayer that I have order from USA and usualy I payed like 6$ for numbers of PCBs...
so 40$ is way to much...
will look if I can find something chiper over the net...
will see what partsconnexion use...

that is exactly what I was afraid of :xeye:. I am already used to drawing a board for myself and buying 2 pieces for $140 shipped (maybe you should try that; it puts it into the perspective :spin:). here you are getting six boards, and they are not exactly small pieces either.

if i have learnt anything so far: there is nothing cheap about this hobby, and if you want to enjoy it you might as well throw the check book out, like I did (or else go looking for used or off-the-shelf stuff). I already spent an hour packing stuff today and another hour going around the post offices (the first one was selling padded envelopes for $2/pc and did not have a prepacked two dozen like I wanted to buy). I have so much of my amp/spk stuff I would like to work on and here I am putting time into other people's boards.

Well Koka,

You can bill me for a set of boards and I'll pay you rght away. Just send me a message or let me know if you need my email or PayPal address as I have not been following how that's handled on this thread. I also usually only get a couple boards made at great cost, however I have also handled KSA-50 and KSA-100 board deliveries in past threads... Hundreds of both boards. It's a lot of work! Most people have no idea how much work it actually is!

Mark

you send me PM with your PPal email and your shipping address.

I am not worried about local i.e. NA-based guys. I will invoice you after I ship it from Detroit, probably US certified mail (then I know the cost). I imagine you should do a lot better than the overseas guys for whom I admit, the shipping IS a ripoff. (for them I feel I should have probably asked DHL or somebody else for a quote rather than just walk into a Canada post office; btw CP is rather famous now for contemplating stoping home deliveries altogether in the next 5 years (they want to lay off all the delivery personel and make us pick up all our mail); and then the press revealed they have 29 highly-paid vice presidents!!!

I was asked about the BOM:

sorry I did not put one together. the original service manual should be good enough. the relays have been specified earlier in this thread. PS section may feature some different numbering but the regulator is very simple. if somebody wants to put a BOM together, I will look it over and correct anything if needed. I would much appreciate any help.

btw I started stuffing my boards, so far so good with the footprints. it all fits. i only saw one error in copper but nothing that will affect the function (it only bothers me since it is not perfect). I will post a picture in the AlephP builders thread by the end of weekend, so that may help too.

more on the subject of shipping pcbs

a reminder: if anyone overseas wants to risk the plain mail to save $16.50 off the shipping cost just let me know. I often do that for myself because they deliver probably 99% of the time, but that's your call. whoever did not ask for it explicitely, it means registered (tracked) mail at the added cost.

p.s. another hint: for example, whoever bought matched fets from Brian may want to consider plain mail since those are replaceable.

well whoever told me here that invoicing through PPal was free was wrong. I receive the amount reduced by 4.2% so I am incurring losses already. I also forgot to add a buck for each padded envelope and that was 25 envelopes I bought. so make that just $3.75 on average and multiply by the number of people and see how the loss quickly adds up for me (minus $100 before you know it!!). I'll be lucky if I do not loose a shirt on this GB. I am thinking now invoicing everything to the guys in the US as well before shipping, which means they may have to wait till I go back to work if we are looking to reduce costs by shipping from the U.S. I will see if I can get the cost over the phone before I cross the border on Monday.

>>bottom line please be considerate before complaining.

ginum and Vitalica: I am still waiting for your payment. you were quick to send your coordinates and I took that as a sign of you eagerly awaiting the boards; now...?

I also don't know who told you that, but PayPal fees were mentioned in #94:

Hi Koja,

No, you are not required to send with Track & Trace when you do the financials with Paypall. Just keep in mind that there is an extra cost of about 3.5% of the total. It is best that you already add that extra in the total price.
