BTW, if your board has galvanically isolated MCLK then it’s going to be jittery.
The clocks are on the dac side of the isolators, i.e. they are isolated from the USB interface side. The I2S signals are isolated going the other way, from the USB side to the dac side. Sorry if I misstated that detail.

Thank you to those of you who responded to the original questions. I will decide my main focus and post a more specific question

I’m pretty sure syn08 knows the basics.
Just registered to comment that while, no doubt, syn08 knows the basics, I don't. This thread was extremely helpful for me, and it filled in some critical pieces of missing information about timing this is very helpful as I am evaluating various combinations of network streamers & DACs.
Threads where people go a bit above-and-beyond in answering questions—rather than assuming everyone "knows the basics"—are a lifeline for the rest of us who scour these threads because we don't know (and often don't even know what we don't know until we come across such a thread).
I have a very basic question: Is it correct that the 4499 is current out, and the 4497 is voltage out?
That is very important to me, because I have just ordered a set of output transformers for my 4497 DAC, and now I am in doubt if I ordered the right ones (voltage out).
