My Tang Band arrived today (4 days from the US - not bad at all) so with some luck I might be able to put together either the 30 or 38Hz boxes this weekend. There was much discussion in the main TH thread about the spikes being far kinder in real life that HornResp shows in its simulations - but all I can do is try one and see. 😀

The size is certainly more WAF friendly than the Horn Jr (even if I run two of them) so I guess that has to be factored in too. My current 12" BLH mains are good to below 100 so I will try keeping the 80hz setting on the XO and swap the TH in place of the BR sub that masquerades (not very convincingly) as a coffee table.

Unbelivable output for a 6" driver at acceptable levels. have 1 already built, another one on the way. Using the PE Bash 300 amp. This thing goes deep.

I'm HOOKED on this tapped horn concept. A tapped horn using the LAB12 is in the works.

Construction took a bit longer than anticipated - actually, starting construction consumed more time than the build itself, but this was intended as a proof-of-concept run before attempting the Mikasas. Learned a fair bit too, so even without the new sub it would have been a good exercise (Table saw 101 and a new appreciation of biscuit joiners).

But to business:
I tossed up between the 30 and 38Hz versions and settled on the 30. I was a bit dubious about the material thickness specified, but kept to the plan. Now it is finished, the amount of resonance in the box is a definite worry. I substituted ply for the original MDF - maybe this was a mistake, maybe I just need thicker ply....

Even in it's "un-broken-in" form, this thing digs deep! I want to let it loosen it up a bit before passing final judgment, but so far I like it. I don't know if the quantity (SPL) of bass is enough for HT work, but the quality is certainly there. Maybe I just need to use more of them 😀
