I live in a city so I went to a metal plate company, asked for ten 10" square pieces of 3mm, and while I chatted to the guy a mchine went chunk-chunk-chunk in the background, and then they just handed them over.
The next time I went I took a drawing of the top plate for a Baby Huey, which I had designed in Microsoft Visio. They charged me a one time fee to convert it to a CAD image (€40 I think it was, but that could have been the total cost), then the next day I collected a drilled and water-cut top plate, and further ones are just the machine time, which was not so great.

Well, that is a whole other level to my bit of ally with holes!
