hi all - is it possible to add a pilot light to the deck - neutral is switched at the front - can i put it in-line with the neutral return wire please ps pilot is 240v incandescant bulb - i dont like the idea of using a led

Do you have a special 240V version, or was this modified?
Can you post the circuit?

You certainly can not connect a bulb in series with any wiring. It would be in parallel a suitable point.

sorry i meant normal uk voltage - so one wire to the switch (neutral) the other wire returns to live somewhere ?

There's a hidden connection at the upper left.
Is that the power switch?

If so, the proper voltage lamp would go between the two twist caps (the ones with 3 wires each).

Why would they put the switch on the neutral line? That's unsafe.
Device, presumably OFF, is HOT everywhere.

That schematic hides more than it shows, please post it in full.

gray is brown - from grey to the motor is only green - no white from live to motor many thanks

While you're in there, if necessary reverse the AC line wires so the switch breaks the hot lead.

The AR ES-1 had a neon pilot light, and caused some buzzing. I had to remove that.

IIRC the AR XA & XB turntables had a power switch with open terminals (no cover).
That might be why they ran neutral to it. From there it went to an uncovered starting capacitor. Changing it to the hot lead might be less safe than the original.

lol - there is some craft paper - sort of shielding - but the spades are fully rubber covered

That was common in the 50s-60s for various consumer electronics.
Kraft paper is a strong, high performance paper, a much cheaper alternative to Nomex.
