Meh. Vodka and Gin are what distilleries crank out to keep them afloat while they attempt to make a proper whisk[e]y.

Today I plan to drink half a bottle Absolut Vodka.
Proud as I am it is a Swedish vodka.
So far I have taken 2/3 of half the bottle (375ml).
I feel rather good, as you can imagine.
Cheers or as we say in Swedish: Skål!
stay away from the soldering iron...
Stoli. But all I need is a shot.

Grey Goose - Someone decided there was something to do with unmarketable wine and become a billionaire doing it, a lot easier than flying to Mars.

I liked how in Russia the vodka bottles had bottle caps, like a Coke bottle. Are they still that way?
My father spent 6-8mo. in the Ukraine (1977) on a government sponsored technology exchange, the "street" Vodka he brought back had bottle caps and was awful. He got the whole 24/7 KGB guy sitting outside your room, candling your eggs, etc. treatment.
I lean towards the Wheat based Vodkas. I think I like the taste of the grain finish. Grey Goose is what I order while out and about.
At home, just Jewel Of Russia. It is kind of a party trick..
After racing on a hot summer night I give out shots to my friends and acquaintances. Many don't like Vodka and are very surprised at the sophistication.

The French gin "Citadelle" is based on wheat and is very, very good in my opinion. Give it a try!
Not a huge fan of most domestic vodka in the US. Its mostly expensive hand sterilizer, brands with a screw top.
Genuine Stoli is good. I find Reyka can be sipped straight up on the rocks. Quite refreshing actually.

Absolute is definitely good. Even my mother-in-law can drink it (she usually refuses from almost all kinds of vodka). It costs 2-4 times more then 'average' Ukrainian vodka but it is just as better.Today I plan to drink half a bottle Absolut Vodka.

I asked the clerk at the Russian liquor store here in Brooklyn which vodka they drink. He said basically all of them. The real Russian stuff is dirt cheap. The premium export Russian vodka was about on par with the fancier Scan brands. I ended up with Russian стандард, somewhere in the middle.
I remember leaving the S.U. after several month of work and much vodka drinking. What did I see for dale in the Moscow duty free? Smirnoff Vodka! And plenty of it.
I laughed very hard.

Once a work colleague brought Nemeroff vodka from a business trip from Ukraine. It turned out that it tasted different from what is produced in Russia. It was softer, tastier, warmer, but closer to moonshine. The Russian was tougher and cleaner.
I also once wrote here on the forum that the metropolitan vodka of the same holding in the Far East in Ussuriisk and in the center of Russia in Vladimir has a completely different taste. It is much tastier in Vladimir. It is obvious that the Far East uses raw materials from China. But there the choice is more interesting, vodka with deer pandas, and with ginseng and other taiga spices and medicines. In general, for Russians, vodka is a medicine, especially among marketers)))
