A NOS 192/24 DAC with the PCM1794 (and WaveIO USB input)

Opinions please 😉

Putting together a build of a new DDDAC.

Budget restraints mean I can't just splash out on big stack of DAC boards, however if given a choice between using two of the new DAC boards or buying one and spending the extra cash on other components, what should I do?

Is the SQ with a twin Dac significantly better than a single set up?

Depends on what other parts you're thinking of ;-)

My current thinking is I already have a 12V supply, and an RPI which will need a decent 5V supply.

Possibly add an isolator/reclocker, Cinemags, and a good quality case to finish the project.

Not sure if the Cinemags are the way to go, open to suggestions.
Alk very good options. Personally I would put lowest priority to the rpi psu (but I don't have much experience with this). Adding more DAC boards later is no problem.

Something different....

I am using a NAS box where I store my music tracks (BIG collection...) with 10TB Disks (2x3 + 2x2)but I was running out of space to be honest. So I bought the same one with 16TB inside.

Now I want to sell the "old" one, with the 4 harddrives inside of course. Point is, that on the forum there might be (for reasons of content 😀 ) more interest, than just on eBay where only the hardware counts. Of course this unit is as new and 100% OK

send me PM please at mail -at- doede.de (no reactions on the Forum please, thanks !!)

here is a pic... it is a Synology DS413j, I bought is for it low power consumption and very low noise level

oh, due to raid the effective space is 6,25TB (makes it lots safer for losses due to hardware failure than just a bunch of disks...)

Selling with the music files?????????? Only German Schlagers I suppose 😀

Found something interesting today when looking on the Volumio site. Just wondering if anyone has tried it with the DDDAC?

Kali I2s Reclocker aimed promarily at the RPI

https://volumio.org/product/allo-kali-i2s-reclocker/

I just ordered a kali and have the rpi 3 now waiting. This will be connected next to my bbb-cronus-hermes setup on the dddac.

I expect good quality but but just under the level of bbb-cronus-hermes, as this unit has the advantage of running completely synchronous clock units and includes an isolator at the output.

However: rpi-kali is much cheaper and easier to configure with volumio and also a bigger community backing the developments on rpi.

I would guess that rpi-kali has the biggest bang for the buck!

Regards,

Regards,

I have the kali for 5 days running on rpi 2 via i2s connected to dddac/tent and volumio, my conclusion it is running well. More 3D and more microdynamics in mine setup.
I cannot compare to bbb hermes-cronus, but the kali has the option to connect better clocks.

Hello,
Did arrive home safely with the Aurender in my backpack on a bicycle.
The Aurender is one that has been used in the shop so does not need burn in.
My dddac has been switched on for a few months now but never with a signal coming from the usb entrance.
Now there ius a short usb cable from the circuit bouard to the neutrik usb chassis receptable and a few inches longer from that receptable to the Aurender. Was not possible to put the wave io closer to the chassis.
Is there some kind of burn in proces after which the sound will get better?
The inside usb cable is 20 or 30 centimeters . The outside one is 40 centimers. They are both the same '' brand '' . I did choose them because they were available in the right length. If i would go for an audiophile grade i would better just skip the neutrik receptable. It would not be very sensible to use '' high grade '' usb on the outside and continue with normal grade on the inside.
Just did listen to some ripped cd's. It surely '' swings '' more, makes you wanna tap your feet. Will it get better during break in of cables and wave io( which has its own proper power supply with choke input ( lundahl) and Belleson regulator with Black Gate caps?
Doede did tell me the sound can be '' tuned '' using a different usb cable. I will write him an email to ask for suggestions.
If the differences are big it would be usefull to skip the neutrik. Did use it mainly because i did not want a HEAVY chassis like mine with a cable dangling on the outside during transport. So will have to add a kind of strain relief and a way to attach the outside part of the cable to the chassis in such a way it would not be a danger during handling.
greetings, Eduard
