A NOS 192/24 DAC with the PCM1794 (and WaveIO USB input)

Air link are good and it is where I started with balanced power as well, however they are very poor quality and they can hum like mad.
After loads of research I now have a 3kVa with a 5kVa iron core, balanced toroidal that is totally quiet and the difference it has made to the sound of my hifi is much much better then the airlink products.

I agreed with you. My AirLink has mechanical hum. I also found it slow down the sound somewhat and takes away the dynamic. Other BT may had better result?

Thanks snup.
Many things there in fact. I will investigate in that anti surge protection sytems before I make my mind. I'm sure that placing it before balanced mains transformer will have diminishing influence on the sound thanks to transformator's properties of self cancelling noises.
For now I will focus on the balanced power supply. I believe that made prperly this is the right and most important thing.

Here is a link to my build of my balanced power supply
New Balanced Power supply

Thanks Sovereign. You did huge work with it. Seems like there is only good oversized transformer needed to make a difference. I'm getting in that subject slowly. I was wondering what effect would bring R Core transformer for that application. Eduard gave me a tip that EI transformers my not be the optimal solution for a balanced supply as the bobbins are one on top of another and is not possible to achieve two identical secondary voltages and currents. Actualy I contacted one producer of customised R Cores to give me his opinion on it.
Soverein, may I know where did you ordered your transformer from, plaese? It looks good. I'm considering also Toroidy.pl (I have one on my dac now), and this Italian manufacturer TRASFORMATORI TOROIDALI, toroidi a bassa cifra di perdita, nucleo toroidale a grani orientati
Just want to order tested thing. And as I saw, you did many people happy with your tranny. 🙂

UPDATE
R Core manufacturer already responded. And that what he said:

Max power is R-5000(5500VA MAX) core transformer.
But over R-1000(Max about 1250VA) is only for wholesale's custom item.
We don't have R-1500, R-2000, R-3000 and R-5000 core stock normally.

So only toroids left to consider.

I have a friend that ordered a 5 kVa trainee from Airlink and it buzzed very badly, put the one I have next to it and it is dead silent. Not all Toroids are designed the same. I don't know enough about Rcore transformers to comment, I would like to know what your contact thought of an Rcore balanced transformer if you wouldn't mind letting me know.

With ongoing quest for perfection and engaging sq, I did choke input filter based. Idea from the raw choke input unregulated ps. The outcome based on my personal setup is very pleased. This ps is to power my Banana Pro server, and I will also mod another for BeagleBone Black given great result found. 🙂

Its super large value choke so using that choke is better than using a regulator?
what is the benefit of using such a large value of choke? I think it will kill the psu noise to almost complete level?

I hope it's Ok to ask here (if not mods please remove) but has anyone a spare 12V DDAC PSU surplus to requirements? I putting together a DDAC on a shoestring budget so hoping someone has a spare they don't need and are willing to sell. I'm in UK.

help needed

sorry to interrupt this perfectly good thread with my request for help but I have had the DDDAC hanging around for the last five months unfinished because of my lack of knowledge so if anyone could help that would be most welcome.

I bought one complete power supply and one DIY version, one DAC board and one DIY board and basically copied the complete version to finish the DIY versions.

I now need help to work out how to test the power supply and the dac board now that I have completed them and how do all the parts, including the Cine mags, connect up together and to the outside world.

I am very non technical so the schematic mean nothing to me and I don’t know anyone that can help.

thanks in advance

Hi Steamboat - also willing to help - in person if nearby, remotely otherwise.
