What sounds better?
In the front part my car has 6.5"mids on the bottom of the doors and tweeters by the side mirrors. In theory this should be causing severe cancellations but it's actually not so bad.
I'm thinking of disconnecting the tweeters and using coaxial 2-way speakers in place of the mids. The problem is that they are down by the floor and I fear I may lose highs.
Which solution do you guys think sounds better when done well?

There's no cancellation between the tweeter and the mid because they're not reproducing the same range of frequencies.

With a 4th order Linkwitz-Riley crossover two drivers are overlapping over about 2 octaves. With a 2nd order they overlap over 4 octaves.
Here's a simulation in xDir of a vertical polar pattern between a mid and tweeter. On the top graphs they are spaced .5 meter apart and crossed over at 2kHz and 4kHz.
The bottom graph shows the sound originating from the same point in space(coaxial).

The cancellation is insignificant. At most, there will be a slight dip in response but there will be so many other problems in the vehicle's transfer function that any cancellation will be irrelevant. The software that you're using may be relevant for home speakers but the auto environment is far more complex.

Cars with separate tweeters are usually labeled as having "premium" sound. My question is does that sound noticeably better than a coaxials at the bottom of the door.
There are really no definitive answers for this question. Having the tweeter higher is generally better but a great tweeter in the bottom of the door may be better than a poor quality tweeter higher in the door.
Improving the system would depends on your talent as an installer. It is the positioning of the seating amoungst other, that make sound quality difficult. Leave speakers where they are. Replace tweeter with highest quality ur willing to pay, modd x-over to tweeter to lowest & safest point, modd mid accordingly. Stero presence should improve.

Thank you both for the input. I had a feeling there is no definitive solution.
In any case I found out that I can work with my existing setup so I will leave it the way it is for now. I was looking to bypass the internal car amp and drive the speakers with an aftermarket headunit's amp outputs. There are 6 speakers in the car so I assumed the stock car amp will have 6 outputs.
I tore out the car amp and found out it only has 4 outputs. There must be some kind of crossover between the mid and the tweeter in the car door. I decided to keep them as they are and just connect the wires that were coming out of the car amp into the head unit. It works as it should and after some corrections with the HU DSP the sound improved significantly.
