Now been "a while" since this thread was started and I wonder what the OP decided? As he hasn't said anything I wonder if he did not survive a meeting with 1000V. 😱 Hopefully not.All are fair points. I think I should try to listen to some 845 and other tubes before I jump into this long and dangerous process.
If kinku is still interested in an 845 amp, the Sun Valley 845 amp Sun Valley Audio (Japan) - - vkung - VK music - Sunvalley Audio Forum may be just what he is looking for. Purchasing as an assembled amp will cost something less than an additional $300.
Is the 1500$ amplifier going to last more than a year? if it breaks how expensive will it be to repair?
Some s.e.t. EL34 to consider:
for 1495 $The Decware Zen Triode Integrated tube amplifier model SE34I.5
Yes Decware makes great amps but he probably wants one in the next 5 years. I won't buy a thing from them until they fix this waiting list issue. It is ridiculous to expect someone to wait 3 years to get an amplifier. So until they fix it they dont exist in my world.
Jeff
wow, this is quite a risk to take to wait 3 years...
I am still procrastinating on building my kt120 amps, so much to learn again and so much !!!

It is the OP’s FIRST amplifier. A 840V to 1200V DC is not the ideal environment to learn one’s chops.I really can't believe the stigma about 1000 volt power supplies. I have learned people will debate anything for no reason other than to be heard.
If you are cautious and learn how to work with electronics, the danger is minimised. Any hobby can be dangerous.
I guess a lot of you will not be building Tesla Coils...
All men die, but not all men live.
My 2 cents, ymmv
I have shocked myself twice really bad. The second time I was just plain lucky as it was across my body from one hand to the other. Both times was with 500v dc. It F'ing HURT. It made the wall outlet feel like a tens unit. Oh and there was a third time with 400vdc. That time it blew a tiny hole in my arm. I was bleeding all over the place. Must have been a micro steam explosion?? Anyways, 500Vdc hurts. Really bad. I couldn't imagine 1000 VDC.
