@George or Salas
What volume pot are you using: TVC, attenuator, etc.?
20K step resistor attenuator. Up to 50k is OK.
You only use your TVC for 26?
Have you tried resistor attenuator with the 26 & the TVCs with the 6V6?

Yes, I use the TVC only with the #26 or by itself.
In my initial experiments with the #26 I used an attenuator. When I rebuilt it, too many things changed so I can not give you a direct comparison.
I think that you have the TVC in a separate box, so you can easily compare.
With the 6V6 only with a cheap pot and is the one I like most. Will try something better when funds allow and I rebuilt the 6V6. Mind you it' s the buffer version.

But you can listen to the TVC by itself and report.
Also I think you should build an 6V6 pre......

Nice to know we agree!
If need a pre with gain depends of the gain of your phono, gain of your power amp, sensitivity of your speakers and listening room. If possible set your pre as buffer, you will get more drive for your power amp and interconnects in most cases.
Been there, done that!

George used 50K ladder in place of TVCs in my #26, now I understand why you said "lack of bass using #26" the issue is'n the preamp is the TVC😀
As promised I try cathode follower without ft3 using simply and old pio (the ones i'm waiting came from Siberia....) and the result Was exciting .... Some litle noise due (i'm sure) to a poor cabling but a very very consistent song i like it very much.
Next step: new caps, a decent cabling and a beautsiful box!

At the input the pot I suppose?

Nice initial result. Congrats. Attachment link failed though. Use advanced reply options here to upload it via the manage attachments menu.

Yes input pot without output TVC, try in your #26 and let me know.
P.S. Salas sorry in advance for OT
Happy New Year
Has anyone tried a 4p1l in this preamp yet?
No as far as I have seen in this thread.
Is it worth the bother feeding the 6V6 with DC? I'll use the preamp for CD and tuner-level signals.
