Next is Merlin's schematic. Unless I drew it wrong I have a gain of around 2.5.
.03%THD into light loads @ 2vrms out, but it jumps up drastically when introduced to 10k. I think this one would want a source follower. Mike's could probably get away without a source follower whereas the grounded grid and this one could not.
Another great contender that may get breadboarded. I could theoretically build about three prototypes at the same time so I can switch them out rather quickly for listening tests.

Another possibility is a setup using one of the many dual dissimilar triodes ginned up for vertical deflection service. Some that come to mind are the 6CS7, 6CM7, 6DR7 6CY7, and 6GF7. The last three have beefy low impedance triodes and a hi-mu sibling that could benefit from some feedback. The 6CM7 and 6CS7 have halves that are closer in characteristics than the other three.
The three candidates with beefy triodes (<1k Rp) might work well with an output XFMR. One could then feed back to the cathode of the input tube, just like a mini class A amp.
Hi, great ideas but I think I want to stick with 6SN7's and I really don't want to buy any iron I don't have to. I think I am going with a source follower for the output....cheap and extremely effective. Plus I can add a headphone out jack for my cans
Just got to nail down the voltage amplifier stage. I am leaning towards the cathode coupled stages.
Anybody build any of the other circuits that were provided? I am very interested in them especially the augmented anode follower.

I may squeeze a headphone amp out of the idea, though there's not a lot of incentive as I hardly ever listen for pleasure with phones.
I have some 6EM7's I wanted to use for headphone amp but I just haven't got to it yet. I was thinking of doing what Pete does with his iakunuchi (spelling??) amp which uses normal output iron but switch in a 10 ohm resistor in parallel when using headphones. My cans are 55ohms. That way there they can be used for speakers too.
