6.5 or 5.5 size mid....

Neither.

PTT6.5M04-NFA-0

Buy once, cry once.

Too much a dry sound say many ???? Finally a break-up that arrives too much early for such a price ? THD is not all.... I would prefer wht you chose from BW (but flat foam equals problems more or less fastly) ... and more than the real 90 dB efficienty of the said 93.5 advertised in the Purifi datasheet ?

The Revelator have aging problems according a recent thread here and the Peereless NE line is realy NLA ! The Textreme are not so good and didn't find really its market as it's not really a game changer... The metalic drivers are definitly not natural whatever the brand, ceramic the same...

Time to have again a serious talk about midrange units here, say 200/300 hz to 2000/2500 hz ?

Audax PR170M0 or the smooth Nexo line (but what a mess that flat foam that doesn't last more than 10 years)
Wavecore or Kartesian ?
Skaaning Audiotechnology !

Give up medium and wait big horn comes with more democratic prices i.e. less expensive than a fridge due to CNC and fast progress and low prices of 3D printing ? BOCO and go for a BMS tri-axial or the expensive 18THSounds or Eminence ?

Go in holydays with a pocket AM Radio ?

Our ears evolved after having heard zillions of drivers and bad designs 🙂

That may end up I keep my old main loudspeaker or finish in a desert listening to the sound of dunes ... but there will be always a fool to say here dunes are wave guides...

so what I have now is

4x ScanSpeak Revelator 26W/8867T 10

2x Scanspeak Illuminator D3004/6640-00 1" Tweeter Beryllium Dome

Mids are TBD the Scanspeak 18M/4631T 7″ Revelator Midrange is currently on backorder so I have time yet but I am for now strongly leaning this way.

Yes on the xover points

Thanks,
John

I have the exact same drivers and haven't decided on a mid either. Was thinking Purifi but they're expensive to buy new. Would like to try the alu-Purifi for an all metal speaker Have the w18 nextel, a couple ss15w and b&w fst to test also. I'm going active so don't have to worry about sensitivity.

Candidates are:

Scanspeak 18M/4631T 7″ Revelator Midrange
Scanspeak 15M/4531K Revelator 5.5" Midrange
Given the high SPL capability of the 2x 10" woofers, and given that the tweeter will tolerate a crossover Fc as low as 1.8k, I would lean towards the 18M driver.

If you were going to look beyond the ScanSpeak range, I would also consider the Purifi PTT6.5M, the Satori MW16TX and MR16P, and the Eighteen Sound 6ND430.

I would also recommend that you make the baffle as small as possible around the tweeter (in the style of Rockport, Avalon, B&W), or use a waveguide.

I don't get why people love these purifi drivers so much. They sound very clinical, and not in a musical way. The surround is butt ugly too and the price is stupid.
Well I don't have any experience with them yet, but I am building a project now that will use them. I recommend them based on reputation and excellent performance measures. If I find them to be overly clinical, I will be disappointed, and I will share that assessment. We shall see.

profiguy have you measured/used NE180W-08?

i purchased one unit out of curiosity, BNIB, current Tymphany production with stamped date of manufacture 2021 or 2022 IIRC.

and... well let's just say I'm not going to miss this unit now that it's NLA.

OTOH NE123W-08 is fantastic for it's size.

I can post measurements when I'm on my other PC...
