This one is also good and very low noise, relatively small and affordable. It needs a 6V transformer which could be an R-core type. I use these on some devices with good results.

My own designs with LM723 dinosaurs are below 5 µV of noise and they are cheap for those that think that is the second most important parameter. Old(er) is not necessarily worse. Higher part count and through hole though .... Discrete designs often beat relatively modern regulators but they tend to be larger. All considered a TPS7A4700 design is a nice combination of good specifications, small size and low price.

To clarify, yeah, something really really quiet. I have plenty of USB power bricks laying around that could power the Clean Side separately from the Dirty Side powering the RaspberryPI: something better than that.
I really do enjoy DIY and would like to have some assembly required at the benefit of cost of parts rather than a finished product. The two PSUs I posed give an idea of cost and quality I'm shooting for.

I think one of the things that's really missing from DIY audio is that last connection from digital streamer to analog RCA/XLR to amp. DACs seem to be complicated, so designing the rest of the system, it's power, it's enclosure, is a sweet spot for DIYers. I'd love to see a write up on that sort of project.
Allo and their Digione Signature player have made a huge step in that direction, but goodness is it ugly. And you get yet another ugly little box with one of their power supplies.
The project I'd like to accomplish is putting a Digione Signature player into a pretty case, WITH power supply that can be connected to AC mains.
I like the enclosure 6L6 uses from par-metal.com in the Peral 2 build thread. "20 Series" amplifier table top enclosures model 20-12083B.

- There should be some separation between AC power and quiet side.
- Can be a USB or COAX out, or include the DAC for analog out
- should be pretty enough to display
- might have GPIO ribbon cable to make it flatter ($3 sparkfun, this might introduce EMF and other interference
