Cobra2,
Cool find. Please tell us a little more about it.
Who makes it, was it a steel, what kind of DACS, do they look like they can be upgraded, any potential for using a better clock, any potential for using a better PSU, is the user interface acceptable, is that a USB connector on the back, are their more what that came from, yaddadadadada....

Ask, and he will send anywhere ( I think).
For the price, you cannot make a similar unit cheaper as DIY...but maybe better...?
Exept for the lack of DTS decoding, it far exeeds my old Technics ?500-something decoder.
See picture in earlier post...

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Looks like a connector for Logitech and other 5.1 desktop systems.
I think I'm gonna buy one, what's 35euro/dollar nowadays ? In combination with my M-Audio Sonica this is what I'm looking for.
The question at hand is, should I buy one or two? I'm sure to blow at least one up while trying to mod it.
Thanks.
-Dave
EUR 44.90, not too shabby.

the dac is this unit is posted in his previous post and the detials and data sheet are in my last one. Its a integrated DAC so no up grade there. Although reclocking and power supply stuff shoud apply.
the AK4110 is a SPDIF reciever.
AK4110
AK4110 is an S/PDIF receiver. Now what is the reference of the other chip near the memory ? It seems to be a DSP that decodes the AC3 stream !

WE HAVE A WINNER!

lets see who wants to make a PCB for a hifi DAC to piggy back onto this decoder? have a nice clean clock on it, new power supply...better caps... OPA627 op amps...etc. Shouldnt be too bad to make this a pretty high end unit.
sorry no luck on datasheets for the other chips...including the SPDIF reciever. Anyways the SB61L256BS-8 is probably a SDRAM module for the DSP.

Hello,
I think I could add some to this interesting disussion.
AFAIK there are some open-source software video players
4 linux, maybe in their code there are some alghoritms that
can be use to program a DSP, say AD21065L.
What do you think about this idea?

Re: This is what it is...:
The one from Yamada also has an DTS decoder onboard, the one on ebay doesn't.
At least the logo is, there is nothing about DTS in the specifications.

Thanks for all of the replies
but now i have another idea
would it be easier to build a decoder that decodes 5.1 from the coax signal, not the analog?
thanks, Mike

Hi all,
Cobra, what type is the DSP?? This is the thing that cannot be modified. Otherhands DAC can become a good one, plus a very clean clock plus an ASRC for jitter reduction. AKM uses the standars IIS format, of cource. And as I see there is enough space for a good power supply, too.

Heres something that may be of interest....
TI chip that runs Linux nativly
Sorry, I guess I should have gone into more detail.
I was wondering, if instead of a decoder that decodes surround from an analog (2 channel) source, would it be simpler to build a receiver to recieve the signal from a coax digital output of a DVD player, and split it to the 5 amps and to the sub out?
