if u making a power supply for car amp then u dont need a sine wave , square wave is much better , that way the output trannies work only in on and off mode .
btw
10db louder is much louder 🙂

Hi people!
I'm new on this forum and this is my very first post here 🙂
Anyway, here's a circuit for a 500W amp from ESP: 500W amp
And as for the SMPS from ESP pages, it can provide as much power as you want, assuming that you use your brain when designing it and use more MOSFETs per channel and a BIG transformer. My version currently has total of 10 MOSFETs and a transformer from an old amiga monitor. I still have to measure it's efficiency and max. output, but I'm assuming somewhere around 85% and 400W 😎
Personally, SPL competitions are pointless IMO. What good is to have 150+ dB? I would rather go for lower power and SQ, but that's just me.
Cheers!

Yap, but I am 89% sure that it is 3525.
I'll check it out...

Hi,
I think that you should get more power from 10 fets.
Can you tell me which fets do you use?
Pozdrav prijatelju!
Pozdravi i tebi! 🙂
(sad cu na engleskom da ne bi bilo nesporazuma, hehe)
I used more FETs mostly to lower heat dissipation and also to have more power at the output, but I'm currently limited by the size of the transformer. MOSFETs are IRF540.

Hi,
I tried with them, but I usualy use irfz44.
You can trie to use two toroidal cores together to make a bigger transformer.
I see you are from same town so I'll try to contact you on your mail. Maybe we'll find some time to discuss it...

That might work but I don't have any toroidal cores (except for the ones that are used for +5V filtering in PC PS) and you can't buy them anywhere in this town (as far as I know). I used ETD type core and it's working OK.
I'm waiting for that e-mail 😎

You can't use those cores!
They are made for filtering, not for power inverter.
This guy can help you get the parts you need. I used his toroids with great success.http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37643
SMPS parts for >4kw.
Hi, I have a good supply of cores, ETD 39, 49, 59, toroids, and pot cores up to a 56 x 56 . I also have a lot of fets and heatsinks. If you would like to build a big supply, I will be glad to work with you. USPS should not be very expensive for these small items.
I have all the data for this stuff as well.
The toroid cores that would work for what you want to do are rated at over 6kw throughput at 120khz! They are about three inches diameter. The problem would be getting enough wire through the center of them to handle the current using a 12 volt source.
These were made by Magnetics Inc. here in the states.
I have used the IRFZ1010 mosfets for several supplies with good results. IR has some new D2 package mosfets that are rated 55 volt 160 amps. These look like a to-220 with the tab cut off. They have seven leads grouped three, gate, three to handle the current. I have ordered samples to put on the torture bench!
If you need odd parts, (this goes out to all in DIYAudio) I will do my best to help. I have access to about anything and will be glad to box and ship for the cost of shipping. If you need a group buy, let me know and I can get cost. Best regards, Steve

Arcom, are you interested?
Maybe we should try something?

man, 4kW RMS is terrific,
and if you don't have experience about such things, you better forget about this idea.
Well, if you have, here's suggestion
how to make it the cheapest way.
First, amplifier has to be full-bridge class D unless you want to install into your car beside new batteries and alternators additional air condition system 😉
Second, for power converter I'd suggest toroidal cores 40-45mm ext. diameter, some 4 pcs. - this is only for music! if you want to have full RMS power 🙄 then about 10 cores.
Each core is to feed with 4 pairs of irfz48-irf1010, fsw about 30kHz, primary 2x5 turns, secondary according to amp. rails
(didn't notice your load impedance). All primaries connected certainly in parallel, secondaries combined for minimum copper
like parallel-serial sections.
Copper primary design would be difficult, you need to distribute 400A more or less equally between some 32 FETs...
And don't forget about additional 250Ah battery, alternator... well, maybe extra little engine will be helpful 😀
Anyway, good luck! If really interested, let me know, I'll send some schs to your e-mail.

Re: Re: SMPS parts for >4kw.
Sure I'm interested! 😉 Especially in large cores and BIIIIIIG heatsinks! I'm currently experimenting with 2x500W amps for subwoofers - 8 pairs of output transistors will require massive cooling
😎

Hi Alme,
I'm interested for some schematics. Yust send it on my mail if it isn't problem.
Bdw, I will use realy big ETD core (10cm2) and lot of fets.
I need +/-100V @ 1600W. Ill let you all know when I finish it.

Alright, I will take some pics of some of the goodies and post them. I had a storage area full of heatsinks removed from all sorts of things. Had some that were 4ft long and 14 inches wide. It is a long story, I was forced to have an auction and somebody bought the whole lot for scrap!
There was over 500 pounds of heatsinks in all shapes and sizes. I was able to save a few and have aquired a lot since. I still have a four foot length of 11 inch diameter "starburst" that was used in a custom project. Cut in half this thing looks KILLER on the outside of a chassis. If you want machine work done on them, email me the design and I can quote you a cost.
I have my own cnc mill and am building a lathe with live tooling to do some real trick car/motorcycle parts. I do not have the overhead of a shop so I will be reasonable on cost.
I am going to dig out the digital camera and I will post pictures later today. Cheers, Steve

I have a decent power supply finished but would like some Mosfet output schematics for the amplifier. if somebody has a good design send them to me!
