2007 Maxon Motor Group Buy

Hi, count me in for 1 of each custom pulley type as well, the drawings look great!

In other news, I know the VPI superplatter has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread but do you guys think it will work with this motor and (more importantly) with only one "string"? From the pulley to the platter there are 2 strings I am assuming to provide additional grip and torque. Will the maxon motor and one string turn the 25 pound beast? Sorry, my ability to understand mechanics is not the greatest. 😕 Kind of worried about balance issues if it is meant to be spun with 2 strings, although all vpi platters could be run on 2 strings...

I don't know if this will be of any help since I use tape drive with the Maxon motor but my platter weighs 47 pounds. I always give it a little push to give the platter momentum at startup and I would suggest doing that with string too.

Here some detailled drawings of the proposed pulleys. Nice work Greg and tanks everyone for you input on this design. It is more or less a reproduction of the original design by Vynil-Addict, but split in two different type to reduce the pulley size and mass. It also includes Vinyl-Addict suggestion of the two opposite set screws installtion method.

so, the rubber belt I'm using now is 1/8" diameter. I'm assuming with the string pully, the string is supposed to sit in that tiny groove, or ride within that V shaped cavity?

This message is for Walter Burkhard. I got request for your two PCB's from an other buyer that is ready to pay.

I sent you 5 reminders so far. Sorry, time to move on :cannotbe:
I'm selling one of your PCB to a member that can pay for it right now.

I'll give you until Friday to come back to me with payment for this one pcb left, or I'll sell it to some else as well.

Sorry, but I don't want to get stuck with parts...

PROJECT UPDATE

I started the assembly of the prototype as well as the 3 other kits that guys asked me to assemble for them.
Found a few little error in my parts list. I miss some parts, so I need to make a last little parts order to complete all the kits.

I just placed the order for the last 7 Silver Pods.

I sent the motor to Greg to begin the production of the custom pulley

I sent 1 motor + pod to begin the pod custom plate production.

Being busy :hot:

I've got a suggestion: why not make the pulley workable with both string and tape?

All we have to do is to machine the string pulley on top of the tape one. The increase in weight should be minimal. Not sure how much more complex it is to machine but we will be able to experiement and test out what is best. We may even get away with just one run. And people who needs a longer pulley (like me) is also taken care of.

What does everyone think?

Group Finance and Custom Pulley and update.

Hi. As you know the string custom pulley should be the same price than the tape pulley, which is more expensive than was the BIX. Also, some of you guys requested some more pulleys from the first payment. Then, there is the final costs adjustements. All in all, I'm presently short of about 900$-1K$ (I waiting for one user, Nanook, for his PayPal account to clear, this alone is about 235$).

Greg is still waiting for some material to build the first pulley prototype. He has a motor to try them on.

Hi Algar,
Just to repeat an email that may've got missed in amongst the high volume you're probably getting about the GB: Is it possible for Greg to make a 10mm pulley for those of us with turntables that have subplatters? I like the idea of a pulley that's fairly easy to remove. What minimum numbers of a variant do we need to get the price sensible?
Cheers!

Hi Toaster. I try not to deal with anymore custom request because the group is already very complex by now. For any special request, you may deal directly with Greg. I'm just collecting the pulley money and I'll forward it to him. Then I'll pack the pulley with the rest of every kits that ordered it. That is really my only involvement with the pulley aspect, not being an expert in mechanic myself.

Hello, I don't know what's going on with the group buy, I haven't had the time to pay attention to DIYaudio lately.
If possible please refund my $173.05. It's been 4 weeks since I've paid and have heard nothing and received nothing.
I don't mean to be difficult or put you in a bind but there should be reasonable interest to absorb the small quantity I ordered.
Thanks

My Answer:
I posted updates almost everyday on the forum. You didn't received anything because some of the parts you ordered are still on backorder. I mentionned that I will go back to each member individually only once their own order was ready for shipping. In order to do so, I need to received all the parts you ordered, which is not the case.

According to my records, you ordered: Motor+PCB+Custom Plate+Custom String Pulley

Motor: I received only 4 so far. I kept one, 1 was sent to Greg to try on the custom pulley he will provide, 1 was sent to Killowaski to try on the custom motor plate is also providing. The last one is already mounted on a test motor pod to test the controller prototype PCB. I contacted the motor distributot to have an update on the motor delivery, no update so far.

PCB: in stock

Custom Plate: Material was purchase, Plates are in production, still not received. I expect to get it before Christmas

Custom String Pulley. Greg didn't built the first prototype yet because is waiting to receive some material. Then I need two prototype pulleys to try on my test setup, then I validate the design and only then, he can produce the pulleys, almost 50 of them by
now...

So to resume, it is not my fault that the group buy is not going faster. Some parts are still back-order, some are not yet built, but we are working on them.

For the record, I closed one member order that was only 1 pcb. All the others are waiting like all of us.

It is also difficult for me to refund you, since I spent all the money so far, except for the pulley.

Don't worry you'll get your kit. It just take some time. Keep watching the thread for project updates.

Bye...

These group buys take time. It is something that we do in addition to our work, family life, etc... Furthermore, this specific group buy started as a simple motor purchase, then transform to a complete motor controller kit with in some case parts kits and assembly PCB. These things take time, we just need to be patient. It is also not realistic for me to email all of you with constant update. Please use the forum for that. I'll post updates when I have one.

Thanks for your understading.
