GEEK WINS!!!

Q613 had a short. I replaced it and everything works great now.
I was worried about D604 and D605 though when he said to check them for shorts because apparently NAD got lazy or something and just put jumpers there instead! lol But then I saw Duo's post that said a short there wouldn't smoke anything and I felt better.
So... a donation to the DIY Audio forum you say? That's a cool idea. Well Geek, it's your money. I can send it to you and you can donate it, or I can just make the donation myself, or you can just keep the money yourself if you've changed your mind about donating. What would you like to do?

Without having the unit to actually work on it's quicker in the long run to do several tests first.
1. First fit a 60 or 100 watt bulb in series with the mains to limit damage while testing.
I'm using this cool test fixture that I'm pretty proud of that has a bulb socket for just this purpose. I'll have to take a picture and post it later.

OMG... 😱 w000t! First time I won something on a forum! 😀
Glad you got it going!
Since you're a gentleman, your honesty needs rewarding too...
Go here: diyAudio - Donations and you'll get yourself a star beside your name 🙂
Cheers!
Aw shucks...
Thanks.
Well, ok then I'll do that. Thanks again for your help!
This worked out really well! I'm going to have to do this more often, but with at least a portion of the reward always going to the forum methinks. 🙂 I like that idea.
I may be asking you guys about a problem I'm having with a Roland CR-8000 real soon.

Helping friend!
Hi my friend,
First, take out the 4 output transistors(for safety).
Spend about 20 minutes to check for open/short of diodes, transistors, resistors...that are around there. Do not turn on the power unless you really really need it. And let us know if you find out something???

Thank you Geek, and thank you 11 year old thread!
Just wanted to say that I fried Q613 while poking around with my multimeter trying to set the idle current.. I should have listened to whoever (probably Lee) said to solder leads to the terminals that needed testing to avoid poking around with my multimeter while it's on!
Anyway.. This thread lead to me Q613 and that was in fact the short. R639 and R641 kept smoking as a result. So for anyone in the future: If R639 and R641 are smoking, check Q613. Q613 was a 2N6556. In the documentation it was labeled 2SB649. I replaced it with a BD238.
