2, possibly 3 ways around the Fostex FD600

I have a couple of Fostex FD600 lying around and am considering building a couple of speakers from these, preferably with active sharing. Does anyone here have input/experience with these drivers and what can match? Maybe the Celestion H1SC-9040 can fit as a horn? They are essentially reasonable.

Some sort of horn driver?

Lots of ways you could go.

Yes I know. I could think of trying a 2 way. Maybe Fostex fe208ez could fit in the bottom. The FD600 can work well from 900Hz and up but will the fe208ez be able to handle bottoms well?

Xtz edge a2 300 for bass/bottom. Anaview 0100 for mid/top, shared with Audiolence.

Yes, I also suspect the FE208ez will be too weak in the bass.

I don't have much experience with 2-way. I think it is easier with several drivers that are implemented in AL. Do you have any candidate drivers in a 2-way construction?

You can get bass out of them, it takes something like this: (1867x292x445mm HxWxD)

and a highish output impedance amplifier.

Something like a 10 that can reach high enuff to meet the horn.

A 3-way could take greater advantage of the orns sensitivity as one wouldn’t have to worry about getting bas sout of the mid.

Say a 6-8” midrange and a pair od 10s or 12s on the sides.

Big compromise is more bits means bigger budget.

This will be too much. Looks good then. Nice looking construction 👍, and yes budget with several drivers is precisely a topic.

Just sat down to study Fostex 12W 120 Woofer. This has a nice frequency curve that can match the FD600ez. Was hoping to avoid too extensive construction as I already have this in the listening room.

OK. First some comments: That ringing would keep me away. The curve suggests hard to use above about 500 Hz. No sensitivity given but it looks like aboit 85 dB. You would have to pad the horn a lot.

Looks like 70 litres is about right. Tuning showing is for a nominal room. F10 in the low 20s.

I would look at the SEAS A26 instead. Much smoother, much easier to cross. About 5 dB more sensitive. There is a long thread with some well developed plans, https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/seas-a26-devore-style-build.369124/.

I like sealed. Push the woofer closer to the top of the box, leave the tweeter out and plop the horn on top. And i’d tweak the woofer a bit.
