1st Time Open Baffle Single Driver Build [Advice Wanted]

One of the most famous and successful commercial open-baffle speakers, Spatial X5, uses 12" midrange and 12" bass driver that is EQ'd way up with powerful internal amp. Even then, apparently open baffle speakers simply vibrate way too much 🙂

Find the GR Research videos on open baffle design on YouTube. I wish I had known these videos before building two ob speaker designs. MJ King's website quarter-wave.com has some good ob information. There are several videos on youtube of the various lii audio drivers in open baffles. People seem to like them a lot.

For a first time go at OB, it will be difficult to beat the Manzanita. Simple, easy to build, all the instructions and informations are there.
It will deliver great OB sound, without going for the cost of esoteric drivers, more expensive DSP setups, etc...

Later, if you really like the open sound of OB, and if you feel the need for more, you can upgrade, and the Manzanitas will be a great gift to family or friend.

A 2-way bookshelf is certainly a tried-and-true option. That said, there is something special/magical about a well-executed OB, and they are less readily available from commercial brands, so I still encourage you to try it. Maybe the Caladan clone would be a good option, or the SB OB kit on Madisound. If you really want to stick with a single driver OB I would probably go with the Lii Song Fast-15.
Can you suggest something lighter than this Lii f15 ?

This SBA driver.

It won't give you much bass, then again, a single 15" either, but with a little EQ to tame a couple peaks, people love this driver, and its price.
