I found this measurement on homecinema-fr.com

I have a pair on the way. Planning to mount them coaxially in the JBL 2x8 cinema waveguide.

Wasn't planning on buying them.... point and click makes for poor impulse control.
Will compare them to the pair of Radian 745Neo I have on hand.

Hi Ernie
Are these with berylium domes or aluminium. I guess there could be a difference in how low they can be used.
Regards
Charles
Aluminum. Not a fair comparison, but I'm still curious in the differences. Always wondered why 18 Sound doesn't use polymer surrounds with their nitride domes. Seems like the best of both worlds.
Might end of using both sets in this project with the 745's low passed at 2.5khz. I have a few Seos 8 waveguides that happen to work quite well with them. Hopefully the ND3's work just as well.

A really good measurement can be found here:
MiniDSP : MINISHARC 96Khz non sense LP filter at 22kHz (1/1)
MiniDSP : MINISHARC 96Khz non sense LP filter at 22kHz (1/1)
Distortion comparison between a pair of ND3SN and 745NEO@ 4.2v hornless.
QSC PLD4.5 one channel.
LR48HP @ 750hz with no EQ.
Uncalibrated 2009 ECM8000 mic 1.75m from the drivers.
CEM DT-85A SPL meter 106.5db average @ 1 meter with pink noise.
Can see that the plastic surround of the 745NEO does better in the low end. No surprises really. These measurements are just for comparative purposes. Not claiming these numbers are accurate. For reference, 4.2v on the widely used XT1464 would be pushing about 118db @ 1m around 1.5khz which is subjectively very very loud in the upper midrange/lower treble.
Will do more complete measurements when the system is finished and tuned.

Added a nude 4" fullrange measured at 4.2v as well out of curiosity. Hot to the touch after the first sweep. Much lower distortion but 10db's less output with lots of power compression. No free lunch.
Two graphs per driver, starting top left to bottom right.

STEPS puts out a lot more signal than the pink noise I was using. The previous graphs are actually 17volts at each sine tone all the way up to 20khz 😱
Wasn't making sense the more I thought about it. No wonder the Lavoce got hot!
Here are some measurements that make more sense.

Subjectively the ND3SN sounds cleaner during sweeps and rta measurements. Will need to do some multi-tone IMD measurements sometime. A couple of dual-tone measurements(13khz,14khz)(19khz,20khz) show a slight advantage but I would like to copy member PVRX's measurement method for a more complete picture.
Excuse me but what are you doing there? A FR measurement without horn? Distortion without horn? Maybe I overlooked something in your reports.
What is always interesting is the impedance shot of the free-air driver as reference for the peaks - but not more.

If it is intended to use a direct radiator then why not use a driver that is designed for this purpose and not a CD?
Still haven't decided what waveguide/horn to buy. Will probably just get a pair of XT1464 or JBL's. I was going to try a nested horn design using a small 8"x4.5" waveguide(measurement above), but it's turning out to be more hassle than it's worth.
So far no surprises. Well designed compression drivers are mature tech. I would like to play with those big Alcons planars someday. I'm sure China will pump out their version soon enough if they haven't already.

Impedance measurements. The 745Neo has a vent on the back cap. I'm assuming that's where the third lower peak comes from. Can see the copper doing its job for the ND3SN.
Be careful when handling. They stick together real tight.
